I am somewhat of a traditionalist so when I recently bought the modern version of the Stevens Favorite in 22 magnum I decided I want a receiver or peep sight for the gun. Also, the rifle cost $200 so I hope I don't need to spend a $100 for a sight. To digress.....let me explain....I know nothing about peep sights to speak of. My experience as a kid was with the crude open sights that come on single shot .22s. I have now read up on how peep sights are better than open especially for aging eyes like my 63 year-old pair. I do not want a scope. So, one local gunsmith said that no one makes a peep sight for this gun. He said he called the three sight companies. However, I told him that the rifle is tapped for a scope and had two threaded holes in the top of the rear barrel to accept the adapter. One of the holes was hidden under the open sights put on by the factory and so he said, "No, there is no hole there." Well, I took the sight out of its dovetail and, Yes, as I told him there is a hole there. So, being new at this and not really knowing him I don't know about his expertise especially after he made that mistake. Anyway, the rear sight is in a standard 3/8" dovetail and the two tapped holes are about 3 inches apart and are for the scope mount of course. So, what kind of peep sight might fit? Also, I have been told by one person, just a guy at a gun show, that putting a peep that far from my eye would be too far to work. Well, what do all of you think. When, I was a kid I learned to shoot with a Winchester Model 67 that was a version with a rear barrel peep site factory installed. My eye was certainly close enough to that peep to see well throught. I have done a rough measure and figure that my eye, when holding in firing position of course, would be about 14 inches from that dovetail on the barrel. It would seem to me that my eye was therefore probably about 14 inches from that peep on the Winchester 67.

So, someone, help me out on what I can do to put a peep on my Favorite. I would think about a Tang Sight. That would look nice on an old-fashioned type gun but a tang sight would cost over $100 NOT installed. Can't do that with a $200 gun unless someone can enlighten me a bit. I have started watching peep sights on ebay and will check guns shows.

Help me out please.
