there was a guy (Gary H) that I met once who knew about shooting glasses and I can not seem to find him on the mailing list no more. I need a pair of glasses the last pair a optical shop made fpr me just suck. Any help here in the Bay area?

Billy,

When I was getting my eyes examined for glasses, tri focals, the last time, they asked if I had any special needs or hobbies.

I said that I work on computers a lot and I also shoot handguns. They asked how far away my monitor was and to show them what I needed to focus on when shooting.

No, I didn't pull out my CCW, but I did assume a stance and told them, "about 4" in front of my right hand".

They adjusted the center field on my tri focals to that distance and now the front sight is nice and sharp. Made a big difference.

Talk to the people who are writing your prescription, they can help.

DM has good advice. Tell your opthamologist/optometrist exactly what you need. Then tell the optician (the person who does the measurements and helps you with frame and lens selection) the same needs. They should be able to fit you with a set of shooting glasses that will work for you, and look good, also. :)

The single best eye specialist I ever saw in my life worked at a Wal Mart in Mountain View. I went back a couple years later, and he was no longer there. No one knew where he'd gone. I couldn't locate him on the internet, and have since forgotten his name. I'm sure he spent an extra half-hour working with me on a second pair of glasses for computing and target shooting.

I ended up going to Kaiser Permanente, my so-called "health care provider," and ended up with the single worst pair of glasses in my life. I took them back and demanded a refund. The so-called "doctor" was a snotty, arrogant obese guy who presumed to lecture me about my smoking.

While we're talking about glasses.

I got the anti reflective coating this last time. Makes it harder for the ducks to pick up a reflection.
