Anyone have any experience on the Taurus Thunderbolt rifles? In 357 or 45 Colt? They seem relatively inexpensive, how will they perform? Accuracy? I have a Taurus Tracker in 357 and it's extreemly accurate - what about the rifles?

Thanks....

I heard that they are no longer promoting them. Maybe even have discontinued them due to all the problems they had. Look over at w... dot sassnet.com . Lots of info there- mostly negative.

I purchased a Taurus .38/.357 Thunderbolt and I've had two jams in about 16 shots.

The first jam happened just after the 16th shot, unable to chuck out the spent casing. I cleared it at home and routinely dry chucked it a good deal to try and "break it in". Weeks later, the second jam occurred when my brother tried to chuck the first round into the chamber, the bullet just wedged part way.

I'd probably be a Taurus hater now were it not for my reliable Taurus 66 revolver but this has turned me off on pursuing the less common pump-action pistol-caliber rifles. As soon as I've ditched the Thunderbolt, I'll look into a lever action like Marlin.

I have never owned one, but a guy I knew bought one when they first came out and sold it shortly after that. He had a lot of functioning problems and accuracy was sub par. I was sorry to hear it. I would love to have a 357 pump action.

I don't normally chime in on threads like this...

But Iv been burned by Taurus 3 times, and I wont every buy another. I don't care how wiz-bang their newest model is, or how many times I will hear that they have fixed their problems.

* I tried one of their pocket autos, and it jammed constantly with all kinds of ammo, even when clean. I got rid of it.

* I figured i just got a bad one, so i gave them another shot. I purchased a Taurus Revolver. The main spring wore out in less than 200 rounds, and it stopped firing in DA mode. Burned again. i got rid of it.

* a few months later, I gave them ANOTHER shot, and tried one of their full sized pistols. Jammed at least once every magazine. It was at this point that i just gave up.

your going to pay nearly $400 for most Taurus models, and even more for some of them. In my opinion, and my first hand experience, there are better places to invest your money.

Playing 's advocate...

You can get lemons even from reputable companies. Kimber, whose business is the 1911, sent my brother a jammer. After he finally sent it in for repairs, his mistrust was such that he replaced the pistol upon immediate return.

With my Taurus revolver, I'd done the research with sufficient sources before deciding on a model that was respected or without criticism. Concerning pistols, I hear praise with Taurus's 92/99/100/101 line that rivals the Beretta 92/96.

For my part, I was too eager to get a relatively uncommon and unproven firearm, and my gamble didn't pay off.
