I am participating in a mock Congress in my American Government class at Elon University. I have been assigned the role of representing the pro gun side, during our Congressional hearing and deliberations. We are basing our arguments/testimony to Congress on a bill which would ban the use of assault rifles, with drop-off points set up nationally for safe destruction of these weapons, as well as a misdemeanor charge and a fine of $1,000 for anyone found in possession of such a weapon.

I am not sure I have enough information to make the right judgment on the issue of assault weapons. If possible, can you please send me more information on the use of these types of guns so that I can make this experience the most accurate and beneficial.

Thank your for your help!

that's a great site!

I just found that about 2 secs after I hit send button :) MORE?

This DOJ survey of prisoners indicates that they only ever use automatic weapons and 'military style semi-autos' about 2% of the time. It's a little bit larger than other numbers we've seen, but not significantly so, especially considering that it uses a broader definition.

It's a little bit larger than other numbers we've seen, but not significantly so, especially considering that it uses a broader definition than the 1994 ban which didn't include automatics.

My advice: use the resources you have to create 'talking points', quick cites of statistics and facts, that you can reiterate throughout the debate.

Sorry about the double post. Would a mod be so kind as to take care of the above?
