Fella's;

My neighbor lady's husband died recently & she knows I'm into firearms. She now has an old model 94 that I'd like to buy from her, but don't want to give her anything but a fair price.

It's only got about 10% of the blue, but according to the dating information it's a 1906 made gun. It is a rifle, with the long octagon barrel, but only has something like a 3/4 length magazine. It's history & I want it, but I also want to be fair to her. What kinda ballpark am I in here? I'm going to presume it's probably over a grand, but how much?

Condition and any special features play a part. If the bore is toast its part of the condition. Give it a good looking over mechanically, look at the bore and rifling at the muzzle.

What caliber is it? Was the magazine factory shorter, or shortened later? The barrel length may indicate if original length of mag and barrel. Are there indications on the bottom of the barrel that it used to be longer, like the magazine ring slot filled in, hole at the end of the barrel where the tip of the mag cap screw went into the barrel? (not threaded, just a small hole) Actual length of the barrel? (to the front face of the bolt, not to the frame or receiver) Most common for rifles was 26". The magazine ring was set back about 3 3/4" from the muzzle. Are the sights original? They were different than what common today.

If you look around on here, you can find pics of original sights and other info.

Just looked at the sight references, the links aren't working at the moment, hopefully they will come back up, they were excellent.

If you can get clear pictures it would help.
