I go to a laid back amateur competion and use my Ruger GP100. The amount of rounds sometimes changes depending on their setup for each match. I have to carry 75 rounds for this up coming event. Sometimes you have to walk on a wooded trail. So throwing my speed loaders on the ground is not an option. If it were you what kind of setup would you use? Please provide pictures or links to the products you recommend. Thank you

I'm not quite sure I understand the kind of competition you are describing. Are you saying you have to carry 75 rounds, while walking along a wooded trail, reloading, and discarding shells/speedloaders along the way?

From what I do understand, I'd think your obvious solution would be moon clips like this one:

Yes, I have to carry 75 rounds and possibly walking through the woods. Correct me if I'm wrong but dont you have to have your cylinder modified to take moon clips unless it was done at the factory? My Gp100 is factory other than the springs.

I don't know anything about speed loaders, etc. so this may be useless, but, What about the type of bags shotgunners use to carry shells on their belt. From pictures, they look like they stay open and would hold a lot. One on each side for fulls and the other for empties. 75 rounds aren't that many I'd think. Just a thought....

Moonclips are unnecessary for a "laid back" competition like the one shown on the You Tube clip above. You will have a lot of time to reload between target arrays. Therefore, I recommend using Safariland Comp III speedloaders which (after a bit of practice) are almost as fast as moonclips. Plus you won't have to fiddle with special tools to load and unload the rimmed .38 special or 357 magnum rounds from your moonclips. (It can be a PITA. I shot a moonclipped GP-100 in USPA revolver for a couple of years and I know.)
don't get me wrong, I love moonclips in my SW 625 with .45 acp rounds.)

All you will need are some Comp III speedloaders, a reloading block, and some speedloader holders. Besides, you will then be set up for IDPA Stock Service Revolver matches. (For IDPA,,you will need some kind of cover garment - a cheap fishing or photographer's vest will suffice.)

Another thing to remember is if you send you mooncipped revoler back to Ruger for repairs, all "non-standard" parts like your cylinder cut for moonclips will be thrown away and replaced with factory parts. It happened to me. UGH.

By the way, what is the guy in the video lugging around on his back?

If you reload or have enough $ to buy 357 magnum rounds, I suggest that you shoot that loudest and flashiest 357 magnum ammo possible at those darn Zombies. It makes for a great show and the wussified 9mm shooters will either cringe in fear or admire you as the second coming of Thor! Remington UMC 125 gr Jacketed Soft Point ammo is my personal choice to acheive this goal in remarkable fashion. Otherwise, handloads with Power Pistol, Longshot, or Winchester 296 / Hodgdon H-110 will put on a good show of sight and sound and will scare those Zombies away.

Enjoy your GP-100!

I think egd has it. Carry a dump pouch. You can catch most of your empties and all your speedloaders if a real rapid reload is not required. I know a frugal guy who unloads into his hand, pockets the empties, then reloads and retains the speedloader. He isn't fast but he doesn't have to look for and pick stuff up, either. We all have our priorities.

Yeah, as others have said, speed doesn't really seem to be at a premium in that game, so just get a dump bag and throw empty speedloaders into it.

I can't really figure out the nature of the "competition."

Thanks for all the info Chris . I'm not sure what is in his backback. We have all kinds show up for the event. I've only been to two of them in the past. The one in May will be my third. Here is a link to their home page if anyone is interested in knowing more about it. I really dont get into the back story at each event, I just like to shoot. http://www.zombieshootersunited.com/

I would get those flexible speedstrips. Milling the cylinder for moon clips costs 3/5 of the price of a good 9mm
