NEF Handi Rifle barrel?

Just curious about this. Browsing the local Gander Mountain I found a used NEF in 223, looked pretty slick. I didn't see a price on it.

Now I already have a NEF 20ga. Is it possible to buy a barrel from somewhere and fit it on the shotgun?

Probably a dumb question but gotta ask.

NO! Do not put rifle barrels on H&R/NEF shotgun receivers. The steel is not hardened for rifle cartridges, and the firing pin hole is too big. You can put other shotgun barrels on, but do not try to have a rifle barrel fitted (H&R won't fit one; I mean don't do it yourself or try to have a local gunsmith do it). If you wanted to re-barrel the .223 receiver with another rifle barrel, you're good to go!

On the NEF guns you CANNOT put a rifle barrel on a shotgun receiver.

You can, however, put a shotgun barrel on a rifle receiver.

These all should be fitted by NEF anyways, unless your really handy.

Barrel swapping and selling.

You cannot put rifle barrels on shotgun recievers, but you can put shotgun barrels on rifle recievers. Buy the rifle and have at it. There are two series of recievers for these, the SB1 and SB2. Buy an SB2 because there are more calibers available for them.

NEF/H&R will not sell barrels without your reciever being shipped to them for fitting, company policy. They'll send back your reciever with the barrels fitted/headspaced and serialized to your reciever. I've done it, turn around time isn't too shabby, about a month if I remember for the three barrels I had fitted. I bought a .223, had a .45-70, 12ga rifled and 20ga smoothbore fitted to it.
