Never know what you’re going to find

Gunny

Every time you start looking around for more stuff it's like Christmas morning in your little work shop (a.k.a. the surplus supply depot/Army-Navy-Marine store)!

Well I decided to see what was under the left side of my eight foot bench.

I had shot the ammo that came in these crates a while back but must have stored something in them, something heave

Looks like I found the rest of my 7.62x26 . I guess I didn’t shoot that crate of 7.62x54r.

The barreled actions for two old M1 Garand funeral rifles. These are waiting to be sent off to be re barreled.

A few AR barrels for upcoming builds. I count five, thought I only had three.

.
Can’t remember boxing these up, but they are read for loading.

This crate is empty, but I remember the day we set off that 40lbs shaped charge. We made a seven foot deep hole in hard packed dirt. I miss those days of playing with demo.

Gunny, I believe you need to lay out your junk on the bunk. Your gear looks kind of abused.

I do have some 782 gear somewhere, maybe in the attic. I also have the wool blanket for the bunk. But then a junk on the bunk inspection would be done by the Gunny. I'll pass.;)
Gunny,
If I was a mean and malicious person that knows your weakness for taking in stray No. 1 , Mk. III* rifles, I might call your attention to this one going cheap on gunbroker right now. Barrelled receiver with good looking buttstock/original unit disk currently at $13.00 http://www.gunbroker.com/item/708229310 Seller claims the barrel is decent. Crown and right side receiver marks still present.

Has about three hours and so to go right now. Needs a bolt and receiver small parts, but then again you probably have those. I have seen those unit disks and screws go for more than that. Sights still on the barrel. It is tempting for me but I already have two enfield projects going on--a Long Lee and a No. 1, MK 3 with cutoff to finish.

The moths got my stuff years ago, but I'm not giving up my e-tool. I do have the gear to be "Firewatch" at our battalion reunions. So don't be making trouble in the Quonset hut.

Didn’t get much done today, but I did find some more straps. I had about a hundred of these at one time. Never could figure out how to use them and gave most of them away.

Found some cotton webbing.

And then there was this box???

It’s full of gun magazines from the 80s.
Hey boom boom! I could take a pic of all the magazines and let you pick one for your prize.

This old WCC ammo crate was already painted brown when I picked it up at a garage sale years ago for $10 or $20. It was full of US military gun parts when I bought it. Now it just has wood for making pistol grips.

Those straps, depending on length, would be great for affixing larger items, i.e., camping gear, onto a motorcycle when traveling. No give like a bungee, and they shouldn't release by accident.

I hate those straps--in the AF, we used straps like that to secure our loads and you are right--they are not intuitive to operate. One of my duties as a junior enlisted was to make sure those straps were secure and tight on pallet secured loads before the loadmaster arrived. I say give them to your worst enemies.

If anyone here on the forum doesn’t like my, I’ll send some free straps.

Not to hijack the thread, but I think I'm going to trade my Norinco Uzi for a mint 1918 Ishapore .410 Enfield musket tomorrow- matching numbers and bored for commercial 3" shells.
The Uzi was definitely cool, and surprisingly accurate, but would only cycle reliably with hot (expensive) loads.

There was a guy lived down the road, single, probably mid 30’s, lived alone,, every spring he’d bring a front end loader in from the farm,, one of thos big ones and clean house,,, filled the loader to the top.

I have one of those Ishapore 410s. They’re fun to shoot.
The problem with the auction that boom boom posted about is that to restore that rifle would be close to $200 or a little more.
Plus I already have one waiting for me to restore.:D

Enjoy reading this thread every night. Kinda like a cool and useful version of the hoarders show. Gunny, you sir have a lot of stuff. I kinda feel like opening the door to your shop would be like stepping into Narnia. Keep up the good work!

Well, I’m not sure what to do next. Well, I really know but don’t want to.
I need to finish going through this pile.
3C6A5BC8-29DD-4D21-AF44-3D2C9CF1E59C.jpeg

But what bench should I start on.
The eight foot one?
6292E42D-FC63-477A-9529-1CDF5F17D992.jpeg

The six foot bench?
F194D44E-3262-481F-A4E5-F332FC32EAC2.jpeg

Or the four foot reloading bench
BD827A3E-0068-4ACA-A83B-81947FAA030A.jpeg

And I can’t forget about the floor of the Mosin closet. There’s a bunch of ammo in there, just don’t remember how much.
11A360E7-9B3E-419C-91BF-D24B339918E6.jpeg

But the cleanup will have to wait till tomorrow or the weekend. Those 12 hour work days are getting to me and I’m just to tired right now.
Maybe tomorrow I’ll throw out a few things and cleanup the floor.

Oh joy.
Those are LC-1/2 Pack frame cargo straps.
Best used in the pure-dee dark (as looking at the things and trying to work them prevents success).

Once set up, though, you have to be careful, as closing that snap can smuush stuff.

I'd rather have rope. Rope has other uses, too.

I don’t know how I will ever finish cleaning up if I don’t stop bringing stuff home. I picked up 100 rounds of reloadable 7.62x39 today for $20. I was lucky and had room in one of my ammo cans.

I did get a little bit done. I found some M16A1 targets.

Also found a bunch of police patches. Do any of y’all collect these?

And another box of gun magazines. These are from the 90s. Don’t know what I’m going to do with them.

Good question Gunny...Good question!

Might I direct your attention to your post #59 in the thread "Treasure Hunt Score!" and ask that same question!
