While reading through The Plain Dealer today, I came across something I never thought I would see in this newspaper; a rather large (6" by 11") ad...for Henry rifles!

If you've lived in Cleveland, or northeast Ohio, for any length of time you would know that The Plain Dealer is a rather decidely liberal; unfriendly to firearms, the Second Amendment, the N.R.A., or any aspect of the shooting community; sort of newspaper; and has been for a very long time.

So imagine my surprise today when on page C4 of the Business section, at the lower left corner of the page, is an ad for Henry Repeating Arms. What's even more interesting is that the top of the ad features someones hand on The Holy Bible, with a quote from Henrys president, Anthony Imperato. The quote is: "Henry rifles will only be made in America or they won't be made at all".

Now it could very well be in these times of diminishing readership, and limited advertising budgets, that the PD has been forced to accept advertisements from the the "other side", so to speak. But now I'm a little concerned that this might actually be one of the warning signs of the coming Apocalypse!

At any rate, it still was an unexpected pleasure to see the ad there; it actually brought a smile to my face.

With print newspapers everywhere losing readership and thus advertising dollars, I guess business trumps politics.

Henry's advertising has been on the rise lately, and I'm glad that they aren't afraid to advertise in such places.

I always wondered why the only place you ever see gun/ammo/accessories adds is only on the outdoors channel...

Now the real trick would be getting The Toledo Blade to run such and ad. Of couse, John Robinson Block runs that rag and there is no way he is going to allow that to happen. He is not only the publisher, but the editor-in-chief (huge violation of journalism ethics). Check this link out http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070425/OPINION04/704250310/0/OPINION

Yes it is an opinion; however, it was published by a guest columnist. It STILL makes me mad.

The disarmament process would begin after the initial three-month amnesty. Special squads of police would be formed and trained to carry out the work. Then, on a random basis to permit no advance warning, city blocks and stretches of suburban and rural areas would be cordoned off and searches carried out in every business, dwelling, and empty building. All firearms would be seized. The owners of weapons found in the searches would be prosecuted: $1,000 and one year in prison for each firearm.

Hey - I have an even better idea! Why waste that much man power? We could start up little work camps, where people could concentrate and perform physical labor which would benefit the rest of the law abiding citizenry!

:fire:

I can hear the goose-steps now.... Looking at the page and searching their columnists (and seeing that this article is from 2007), I can only hope that this idiot (not to mention fascist) columnist has been removed from this publication due to the public outcry from his little article. I imagine a generation of Holocaust survivors being very angry at this "man"'s ideas.... :banghead:

All people who are inspired by Marxist Socialism and Nazism think alike.

Back on topic.

I've been seeing the Henry Rifle ads on TV now for about a year. And on more than just the outdoors channel. I'll admit I was indeed thrown off the first time I saw one,... I thought I'd never see the day again where gun ads would be shown on main stream TV.

I have seen (but not for several months now that I think about it) Henry Rifle ads on Fox news.

Nothing like standing by your convictions, huh?

Well, here is my OPINION and with the rise of the internet, I can publish it too! :p

The re-armament process would begin after the initial three-month amnesty. Special squads of police would be formed and trained to carry out the work. Those owning no weapons would be prosecuted: $1,000 and one year in prison for each family member lacking a firearm.

What part of "illegal search and seizure" would NOT apply to such a nationwide gun-grab as this airhead proposes?
