Got a phone call from the owner of my LGS this morning asking if I would be interested in a Ruger Blackhawk in 10mm/40SW. He went on to explain his sales rep at Lipseys had called to tell him about the gun and would he be interested. After confirming a few details about the gun a friend and I pulled the trigger on a pair. They are going to be stainless and offered in 4.6 and 6.5 inch barrels (we opted for the 6.5" versions) Because of the holiday they won't arrive until either Friday or Monday. IMO this is a better offering than the Super Redhawk in 10mm and I'm really jazzed for them to arrive. If you want to look a picture and see the specs go to Lipsey's website and scroll to their exclusives.

Very interesting! Ruger appears to be putting new life into the 10mm. cartridge, at least as far as revolvers go, with these two new Blackhawks and the already announced Super Redhawk model.

I wonder how much love there will be for this 10mm revolver.

I wonder too. Thanks for the Lipsey's link.

I agree, kind of. 41 mag still makes more sense to me. But 10mm fans should be happy.

Kind of my sentiment too. I could see someone who is already vested in 10mm. (and possibly .40 S&W as well), being interested in having a revolver to go with their semi-autos.

Well its better than carrying that tank of a super redhawk around, although if you want big bore in that frame may as well go .44 spl-.45 Colt however I imagine .40 S&W is more available in the area.

The Super Redhawk a least has the advantage of being double action and using moonclips for the fast reloads and, assuming your using the moonclips, the ability to switch from 10mm to 40S&W without a cylinder change.

Neither of these 10mm Revolvers from Ruger are going to replace my S&W 610. SRH is to big and heavy and the BH is too slow.

There shouldn't be a need to even change the cylinder the 10mm cylinder will chamber the .40 Smith as well, only reason I see to switch it out would be to lessen the travel by a shorter cartridge into the barrel. The moon clips to me is a non issue if you used it for defense than go ahead and use em but if it's just for fun I'll take that blackhawk.

10mm is a good cartridge, fun to shoot, and fun to reload. I have owned 10mm autos for years. The question that remains unanswered to me though, is what is 10mm for exactly, and why do people want one?

It’s a toy cartridge to me. I don’t use it for concealed carry. I use a 9mm for that. I don’t use it for home defense. I use a 9mm, 45 ACP, and 12 gauge shotgun for that. I don’t have to worry about the relentless grizzly bear attacks some forum members are concerned about, and even if I did, I would rather go with a 44 magnum.

So for me, its just a toy. I will probably shoot up the rest of the 10mm reloads I have and then sell it.

I don't know, 10mm fans are usually so worried about having 15rds on tap they may completely dismiss the new Rugers.

The Blackhawk in question requires convertible cylinders for the two cartridges.
