Hey guys,
I've been tossing around the idea of buying a new 45-70. I have always been intrigued by doubles. But I know they can cost thousands if not tens of thousands. Are there any good doubles to be had for under a $1,000? I feel kind of foolish for asking but my searches are coming up empty and I think I might know the reason. Someone please tell me they exist...... I don't want fancy. I want function and accuracy.

Jim,
I have seen that rifle but read some reviews I believe on here that said it had accuracy issues with POI being different between the barrels. But that is close to what I'm looking for. I frequent Buds almost daily. I know the reason doubles are so expensive is not just the quality of the materials used but also the effort it takes to get the POI centered for both barrels. I know I'm never gonna get Kobe beef on a chuck budget. But I sure wouldn't mind a decent Angus.

Well I admit I know nothing about the gun. I wouldn't buy it without seeing it. H&H has posted some pics here of cheap DB's "regulated" by grinding the muzzle.

That is the problem with most cheaper SxS firearms. Proper regulation takes time and skill that is not spent on something built to a price point. It was the Cabela's Sabatti double rifles that were regulated using a grinder.

I too am permanently interested in double rifles.

I would, however, STRONGLY recommend getting a high-quality single shot rifle. A good Ruger No. 1 in .45-70 can be had for a little more than the Baikal, but you won't have to worry about relatively poor rifle quality (Ruger No. 1's are of excellent quality unlike the baikals), and you won't have to worry about messing with the regulation screws to get both barrels to shoot in the same spot (which, according to several internet reviews can be a real challenge).

I'd either buy a Ruger No. 1 or save up for a really nice double rifle. Some [VERY nice] doubles are in the $5000 range.

Yeah this is going exactly how I feared it would. Can't/don't want a Ruger 1. in 45-70. Love the looks. But I'm not dropping almost a grand on a single shot. They are absolutely one of the most aesthetically pleasing rifles I know of. And the actions are strong. But they are still just a single shot. And I will never (unless I win the lottery) spend 5 large on a firearm. This wasn't how I wanted to start my day. Lol. But I kinda figured it was going to go this route. Sometimes you just gotta face facts....

Robert,
If you don't think there's really anymore that can be added here, go ahead and close it down. I think I got my answer.....

Thanks to all who replied....
