Finally got around to looking at all my spare AR parts and determined I wasn't that far from a new AR just from old discarded parts. I had a pre-ban Bushmaster A2 upper, a post-ban Bushmaster lower, an RRA match trigger, a Magpul MIAD grip, and various other spare parts lying about.

I bought an A1 Coyote stock from CavArms as well as their C6 midlength handguards. From ADCO I bought an RRA shrouded bolt carrier group w/bolt and a CMMG midlength 1/7 chrome lined barrel.

Unfortunately, I ended up grabbing the barrel blocks for the vise instead of the action blocks and ended up scratching the hell out of the barrel underneath the handguards because I didn't want to wait; but she still looks good - just like a baby A2 in proportions... 16" barrel; but better sight radius than carbine.

Nice job! Luckily your small mistake is hidden by the handguards!

There's someone right down the road from you that has action blocks. Keep it in mind for next time. :neener:

Do you have any pictures of the contour of the Giffman barrel?

Yeah; but I wanted it NOW! Seriously, I should have waited. Underneath the handguard has some nice scartches, though I can't yet tell whether it is scratches in the park or aluminium over the park (used an aluminium barrel block and some cardboard).

I'll try and take some pictures if people aren't too shocked by my butchery. The barrel is .72" under the handguards.

I took it out and put about 90 rounds through it the other day to get it sighted in and test it a bit. I like the increased sight radius. Combined with the RRA match trigger, I think this is going to do very nicely for an iron sighted gun.

The recoil impulse is different. You can notice the difference between a carbine gas system and this gas system. Muzzle flip on this is about the same (maybe slightly less) as my 16" HBAR with carbine gas system (but then again this barrel is probably 0.5lb lighter as well).
