New Buck

I have the same knife, from Walmart too. I've had it for about 8 years and carry it all the time. I'd like to upgrade to an Emerson Commander some day, but this Buck does the job quite nicely. I'm also not afraid to use for opening boxes at work, or other chores. The action on it is smooth and will get smoother as it breaks-in. The handle has a nice shape that fits well in my hand, and it's made in the USA. There's certainly nicer knives out there, but I've never been disappointed with my Buck Odyssey.

Yeah there's nicer but for 20 bucks (no pun intended) it's hard to beat. I've owned expensive blades but I don't like to carry them. I'd feel too awful if I lost one.

My one big complaint about this Buck is that the blade goes into the handle a little crooked so that it sometimes scrapes the side when I try to open it up. A minor quality control issue but still annoying.
My Gerbers have higher quality but they don't take as much abuse.

I'm curious how good the 420 steel is. It's seems inferior to the ATS-34.

Someone should start a thread where they rank all the types of steel in order of quality!

A Buck Odyssey is a really good value. I've had two of them, one got lost at work, and I lost the other one while biking around somewhere. I seem to lose my daily carry knife every year and a half or so. If/when I lose my current folder, I'll buy another Odyssey to replace it.
Both of mine were a little crooked too, but I took the blade out and put a thicker nylon washer on the scraping side, and that helped a little. You could always polish the liner channel and blade to slicken it up a little if it still drags.
