So the girlfriend and I like to shoot clays. She has her own pink shotgun and she's getting better (two years ago she was parroting Brady Campaign arguments at me). I have a do-all champion clay thrower aka "the flinger." Well the flinger is on its last legs, literally. The foot peg welds are broken and the feet that hold it into the ground are coming off. Its seen a lot of use, especially in hard dirt. I'll save it to see if I can mount the throwing mechanism onto something else. It was only ~$~25 bucks.

Anyways, the girlfriend has a hard time pulling back the throwing arm (I told her she needs to hit the gym ). She can pull it back a load it a few times when I'm shooting, but beyond that I end up doing the loading. She also attempts to pull it back while standing in the arc of the throwing arm, which resulted in a painful accident awhile back.

I've seen the 3/4 cock throwers and the foot cocked one on the internet but none in real life. I am in the market for a new thrower but I don't know which one would work for us. I'm looking for the one that is the absolutely easiest to cock. So easy your grandmother with arthritis could do it. Can you guys point me in the right direction?

Secondly, I am in need of a stock adjuster for her Mossberg 500c. The bottom of the buttstock digs into her "lady parts" and hurts her during the recoil. I already have a recoil pad on the gun and one that is on her shoulder. The problem is the sharp lower end of the buttstock that is causing problems. She ends up holding the gun on an angle, so that the top of the gun is pointing at 10 or 11 o'clock. I've seen those stock adjuster things that are on fancy target rifles that tilt the recoil pad/buttplate in or out while allowing you to hold the rifle normally. I'm looking for one that would direct the lower edge of the buttstock out and away towards her armpit.

To sum it up:
1) Durable clay thrower needed that is really really easy to cock. Budget < $100
2.) Buttplate adjusting device that helps move the buttplate away from "sensitive chest areas."

All suggestions are appreciated!

Can't help on a new "Flinger", but....

The Jones adjustable pad is probably the best currently on the market. It can twist to cant the toe of the pad enough to make shooting much more enjoyable.

Top it off with a good pad like the Sims or Decellerator and you're good to go.

HTH....

I would say the abosolute eaisiest would have to be an automatic  but your not going to find one under $100.

So less than $100. The Trius foot cocker looks like it would be your best bet in my opion. I don't own one but was thinking about getting one and all the reviews looked good, says it throws great and is easy to use. Almost all the bad comments are about the assembly instructions being horrible.

You cock the thrower with no tension on the spring (should be very easy), load the clay or clays then stepping on the foot pedal engages the spring and also releases the arm.

I don't mean to be an ass but I see people time and time again say they have spent way more on targets and throwers only to have stuff break and wear out than they would to just shoot at the gun club. Gun clubs buy targets by the truck load and get them cheaper, and also have professional level machines designed to be used on a daily basis.

It's also a great way to make friends with others interested in the sport, as well as pick up hints from the regular shooters and even some competitive shooters.

Dave pretty much nailed it with the adjustable pad thing.

Two thumbs up for the Trius foot thrower.

River bends park in Shelby Township has an area you can bring you own clay’s and thrower. It’s a good area you can relax and teach your girlfriend some fundamentals with out worrying about holding anyone up that may be waiting for your to finish your time at the range.

Trius One Step. You probably can find one for $100 if you shop around a bit.

My wife broke her wrist a few years ago in a fall. After she almost re-broke it trying to cock the old style thrower, we bought a One Step on sm's advice. It sees quite a bit of use and has been worth every penny. You DO have to weight around 125 lbs or more to work one, though. The nephews and grandkids are always disappointed that they can't make it work.
Gun clubs
True enough, but sometimes you just want to go out in the pasture a shoot a few clays.

Thanks for the tips guys. A gun club is kinda out of the equation with how much we get out given how busy I am with school. The Jones adjustable pad looks like exactly what I need. Also the Trius foot cocker looks like the best option. No upper body strength needed.

ctgmi: River bends park in Shelby Township

I didn't even know that existed. Thanks for the heads up. Is it any better than the DNR public ranges? There is a lack of places to shoot (legally) inside the city of Detroit and Pontiac Lake is the closest range. It makes t

No problem, River Bends just has a portion of the park dedicated for Trap. It’s only about 10 stations that only encompass a platform/bench for any clamp on throwers with a gun rack at each station. Like I said you need to bring your own thrower and clay’s. If I recall the shooting area is only open Thurs-Sunday there is also a charge of $6.00 per day, but in the off season the person who takes the cash is usually not around.

Not sure what part of town you’re in but here is another nice club in the area. It's just a mile east of the River Bends park.

Oakland County Sportsman's Club (Waterford/Clarkston) and Island Lake Shooting Range (Brighton) are other metro-detroit places to shoot. There are several others around as well but most all of them are gonna be a bit of a commute from the City of Detroit.
