Went to my local GS this afternoon, after browsing around for about a half an hour I decided to take a look at the new Colt 2" .38 special Cobra.
Always had a desire for a Colt DS so I went to get in line.
Had to stand in line forever before a salesman became available, finally got to take a look and really loved the trigger pull and feel of the gun and after standing in line so long just to handle it I felt compelled to buy the damn thing. Spend another 45 minutes filling out paper work and then had to stand in another line to make the purchase. Another hour passes by before I get to the cash register.
Spend another half hour waiting for this really cute lady to review everything (best part of the overall experience) now I give her my down payment and I'm finally done, only I'm informed that my 3 day wait has now been extended to 10 to 12 days due to overwhelming gun sales.:what:
Go to buy some ammo for my new purchase and find out all they have is some Winchester self defense stuff for $ 35. for a box of 20.
Told the guy I'll just go home and hit the reloading bench.:p
What a world we now live in. :(

Congrats!! I love my 3 inch King cobra. I really would like a night cobra to go along with the king. Please do a write up after you get her home and to the range

Nice! I bought my 2” a while ago; great fit, finish and trigger action in DA and SA... plus the firesight makes the front sight just pop even at the somewhat dimly lit indoor range I usually shoot at.

At least your wait is (usually) 3 days, the process to stand in line, fill out paperwork, await an OK and pay an extra dollar on top of the cost and tax is what we now have to do here just to by a box of .22’s or shotgun shells.

For a gun purchase, it’s at least ten days to wait here. A few months ago at the height of Covidinsanity it was AVERAGING 18-21 days for any gun purchase. I had one go 20 :(.

As was posted earlier let us know how it shoots for you when you get a chance to head to the range .

Stay safe.

I love my New Cobra. Base model, came with Hogue grips which weren't big enough for my bear paws. Put on some Pachmayr Compaqs. Grips from a post 77 D frame work. You might need an alignment pin, but my gun had one. It is my favorite pocket gun, and it is on the nightstand.

Here's an old 50's (iirc) era Cobra to tide you over lol, very worn finish but mechanically sound and great trigger. I dont think the finishes held up as well on the lighter aluminum Cobra vs the Bluing on the det spec. I have the original checkered walnut grips but the pachmayr is more suited to my gorilla hands. The newer Colt reissue's are steel correct?

It's that time of year where it starts cooling off and a carhartt vest is part of my regular daily getup with the nice big square inside breast pocket. My OG cobra fits right in there perfectly and they are more confidence inspiring with 6rds of buffalo bore std pressure hardcast wad cutters than a FMJ .380 which is what I usually carry (on my person). My 43 also fits but I like to make sure my cobra gets some carry time.

Not my first Colt, in the 70's I scrimped and saved forever to come up with$350 bucks for a Gold Cup. The following year I did the same for a Python, still have both guns.
Over the years I've had several others but I foolishly sold a nice officers model so I could buy a boat.
A DS was always on my bucket list and I have an old parkerized Colt agent which is a great revolver because I can throw it in my tackle box and forget about it but when the new guns came out I had to have one. First on the list was a 4" Cobra target bought last year and now this one.
DustyGmt, another bucket list Colt for me is a 1903 or 1908 pocket hammerless like yours along with a New service in .45 Colt.
Once back in the 80's I was in a bait and tackle shop up in the north woods and the guy had a beautiful Colt match target 22 for $150 bucks.
Passed it up for bait, beer and Musky lures, didn't catch any Muskies on that trip and I'm still kicking myself for not buying it and going home.

Congrats on the new purchase. I’ve yet to see any new(er) Colt revolvers in my neck of the woods. Only specimens are older Pythons and Troopers, etc. and prices are stupid, IMO. I hear great things about the new Pythons and Cobras.....I have 2 Pythons and 3 DSs, plus an Agent. I guess I’m old school and prefer the old artisans. I’ve read that the “new” Colts are approved stronger and smoother than the earlier models.

I quit shooting magnum rounds out of my Python probably 20 years ago because I didn't want any timing problems.
Kind of a shame because my handload of 13.5gr. of 2400 under a Speer 146gr. half jacketed semi wadcutter was the most accurate round I've ever shot. Bought a Dan Wesson to shoot hot loads out of but Speer has obsoleted my favorite .357/.44 bullet.:(
Bought the King Cobra target model but it appears that old age has given me timing problems.:p

That's funny, I came into a nice woodsman .22 that was bought for $150. I paid $200 for my cobra and $200 for my Det Spec. $75 for a Frontier Scout and $300 for the 1903. All I have is the Cobra and 1903. I very much regret selling/trading the other colts.

I've bought and sold just about every kind of semi there is over the years and I could never warm up to plow handle SAA's but I truly regret selling that officers model.
I keep trying different semi's but always go back to the tried and true 1911 platform.
Never sold any of my revolvers except of course the plow handled Rugers mentioned above.
Especially like wheelguns now in my old age because with revolvers you don't have to chase after the brass.:D

Congrats on the Colt Cobra! I picked up a used, but like new Colt Cobra from Bud's Guns a while back for under $500. Bud's had 5 of them listed, and I'm glad that I acted quickly because all were sold the next day.

OK so I picked up my new Cobra this afternoon and I'm sitting here comparing it to my Colt Agent.
Size wise they are identical with the exception of the enlarged trigger guard.
The Cobra has a transfer bar as opposed to the Agents hammer firing pin.
The Agent is definitely lighter but the stainless finish is more attractive than the parkerized finish of the agent.
The new Cobra is rated for +P while the agent is not , on the other hand the Agent with it's parkerized finish can be thrown into my tackle box and forgotten about. Single action trigger feels about the same for both but in double action the Cobra is better.
Tomorrow I'll take them both to the range with some 158gr. SWC's and report back on my findings..
Non +P for comparison but I will take some +P's for the new Cobra.

One of the LGS has a new Colt King Cobra with a
3 inch barrel .. nice looking revolver... fit and finish great ... in my book .. much better than what I have read on the net ... but I’m sure its not like the earlier versions... Its priced at $890.00 .. a bit high for my taste.. but it is a stainless steel 3 inch barreled 357 !

Get a low dollar holster and take the Cobra. Any unholstered gun in a tacklebox is an accident waiting for a place to happen. And if you want to be able to draw out of the box tie the holster in place.
