New Glock 26 - firing pin problem?? What happened??

I took my brand new out-of-the-box Glock 26 to the range, with 2 mags loaded with PMC 9 mm hollow point. I racked the first round into the chamber and fired--the hammer fell but there was no discharge. I racked the round out and looked at it--no evidence of any firing pin strike. I did this 2 more times, with a different round each time--same result. My first 3 tries resulted in a failure to fire, and each round came out in pristine condiction.

Then it started working right. I reused the 3 unfired rounds and each time the gun worked fine. I put another 150 rounds of FMJ through the glock with no malfunctions.

Still--why did the gun not discharge for the first 3 times? What if the same thing happens, when I really need it to work?

Anyone have thoughts about what this could be? I've read that some Glocks have firing pin issues, but this is a brand new gun. I am puzzled.

Did you strip and clean it to remove shipping lube before use?

When you say "hammer" , do you mean striker ?

You may need to disassemble the slide and clean out the striker channel. Some times the lube/preservative can creep in there and gum things up. The striker channel needs to be dry, no lube. The delrin channel liners are self lubricating.

Maybe your first attempts loosened things up and then it started working. I would just clean it up really good and then run a few hundred rounds through it to make sure. If it doesn't work....call Glock.

Never heard of GMC ammo . It is possible that the primers on the ammo is too hard for the Glock to detonate.

After reading the OPs post I decided to check my new Glock 19 GEN4. It's still unfired and new in the box. Built in March of this year. Took off the slide, removed the pin and took a look. Looks perfect.

I would recommend everyone check out a new pistol; clean off the machine oil, check out the pin holes for burrs..etc...lube per factory and reassemble.

On Glock pistols make sure the firing pin and firing pin hole is DRY. No lube. Dry and clean. After a few hundred rounds, remove the pin again and run a couple of clean Q tips down the hole. You will be surprised at the black gunk that you remove. Remove until clean and re-install that dry pin (inspect the pin as well).

I'd guess that the firing pin safety was being "overly safe" for some reason. Could have been stuck in place by a small bur or excess lubrication. It's also possible that something got in the firing pin channel (burr, manufacturing debris, excess lubricant) and interfered with the motion of the firing pin.

I'd strip the slide, clean everything and then do a checkout to make sure everything's in order.

If there's a GSSF match near you, you can take your pistol to the match and have the onsite armorer inspect the gun for issues. The inspection and any required parts (short of the expensive stuff--slides/barrels/frames) should be free.

Shipping and storage lube is not usually the lube you want in operation.

just for the record, the Glock is working fine now. I have run about 600 rounds through it and each time it works fine.

Bet you it was gunk in the firing pin channel, as some have suggested. Once you broke through it, you will be golden forever more.
