I recently got a Rock Island Armory 1911 with plain wood grips, I have no complaints about the grips, but I would like something a little fancier, just for looks. Anyone have any suggestions where I could find any nice, and hopefully cheap grips?

Check out "Eagle Grips". He's a great guy, I have several for my Colt. He can get you pretty much what ever you want.

By nice do you mean feel, looks, style, material? There are many ways of seeing it and a bit of clarification along with expected price range can help slim the suggestions and shorten your shopping time.

i like the classic double diamonds. i replaced the black plastic grips on my para ordnance with some cocobolo double diamonds by ed brown.

another thing to consider is if you want thin grips or not. i find that the thin grips fit my hand better. need different bushings for this however.

I like the wider grips personally, and I want it to look and feel good, I was looking at some bone, ivory, rosewood, and alumagrips (because of custom logos). I don't want to set a limit on my price range, because I could scrounge up the cash for fancy grips if I wanted them that much, but cheap is nice, as long as it doesn't sacrifice quality. Thanks for all of the great suggestions so far!

I like my alumagrips and would put them on any other 1911 I bought at this point.

I got the thin ones, they're slim, light, durable, look nice, and feel good in my hand.

What HKGuns said Altamont Grips, most are $45 a set and are very nice. The one on top with The Marine Corps Logo and the 3rd one(Delta Elite) Bought both sets for under $100 shipped. IMG_2470.gif

I have gotten two sets of carved grips off ebay. These are the cheaper, laser cut ones, but they still look very good on the gun. The others (no photo yet), are hand carved with bigger oak leaves. Not only are carved grips distinctive, but they give a good grip, like checkering, due to the texture.

How much are you looking to spend? Some of the grips being suggested will cost your almost 25% of what the gun cost. Seems like a lot to pay.

I would look at the forums classifieds. There are always people selling grips they are not using at great pricing. If you are not in a rush you can often gun stuff 50% less than new.

+1 on the Hogue Grips.
I just purchased a Rock Island and shot it today.
Th egrips really made the pistol steady in my hand in the cold. My guess is that it will work well in the heat also.
You won't be disappointed.

I already recommended altamont, however, I'll tell you what I did with my RIA. I bought a cheap ($15) pair of military grips, pictured below.
