New gun shop reality series on Showtime

It is my first inclination to believe that this show's true purpose, besides making money, is to discredit firearm owners as being unsafe, loony, extreme right wingers. I hope I am wrong. It would be nice if showtime helped gun culture become "mainstream" and show some uninformed folks that most firearms enthusiasts are normal people and often actually the best of society. I'm not holding my breath on that however.

I like the show. I think the guy has a cool approach at selling guns, he lightens the atmosphere for a lot of people that might be apprehensive of buying a gun for the first time. Gets to know the customer and what they are looking for. He talks to Newbs and not down to them and shoots the bull with the vets. I like it and have it set on TIVO. Noticed one guy holding some "Bullpup" and the term Mall Ninja got dropped, pretty funny.

I think overall it shows non gun people that most people that buy guns aren't loons like the press makes out. A lot of the people on there have legitimate reasons to carry and the other half enjoy shooting. Cool show and I hope they keep it up.

I think the host is a low IQ goofball. He is unprofessional. He shows disregard for safety.

Asking about peoples' personal lives is not acceptable salesmanship. If you want to gauge peoples' shooting experience level, there are more polite and subtle ways to do so.

He doesn't understand (or maybe he does...) that he is an ambassidor for 90 million American firearm owners. He should act accordingly, unless he is doing exactly what the director tells and pays him to do.

And, the point that everyone is missing is that a polite, well-spoken, knowledgeable salesman would come across as "boring and unexciting," thus producing low ratings for the show. Now all of you out there know that TV shows (especially "Reality Shows") have to be geared for morons with 30 second attention spans, and generate high ratings to stay on the air.

It's dissapointing, and for a shootist, he isn't a very good shot

Saw him say that you don't have to aim a shotgun and just rack it. Great tactical advice for newbies.

If this is the show I think it is, a clip on youtube showed a old woman that came into the store and started pulling knives from her purse, belt, and pockets, then bragged to the shop keeper that the man she was with was her third husband because the first 2 were already dead . . . then it's mildy amusing reality trash aired for mildly intellegent viewers.

the previews of the show so far shown on versus channel, is that the show is merely an attempt to get people against gun ownership. The promos show a man and a woman who can barely get beyond the "beavis and butthead"laughing routine when they see the gun case. The second part of the promo shows a male, who looks like he could be a cast member from "deliverence" claiming to be a post office counter person fondling an ak while asking "can i carry this in the post office?' while giving the impression he cant decide to fondle himself or just the gun hes holding.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the "loonies" coming into the store were actors paid to be irresponsible and flippant of safety or laws. Who knows just what is in the fine print in the contract the store owner signed, is all I'm thinking. Would make sense to me that if the producers and director feel ratings are going downhill and they're losing money they'd want to "mix things up".
After all, the television zombies want to see blood, carnage, and drama..

You guys are being a bit rough on the show IMO, I don't know bought you guys but these people that are on the show do show up to my gun shops around here. You get Mall Ninjas, scared moms, and plain hicks looking for their next gun. Don't see any oddities there. The woman carrying the knives also worked parole. Store owner has personality with the ability to calm a nervous buyer and get to know what they want. Better than a lot of stiffs that work in our shops. Have you people watched the show? I think any show that promoted gun buying, shooting and collecting has got to be good for the cause. If the public watching this thinks its anti gun then they are really going to have a fit walking into one of our shops. To much conspiracy in your guys posts.

As far as the less than intellectual viewer being the target, I watch it and take that as an insult. I am into the same guns as you, I reload, and cast my own bullets. I see these people every time I walk into a gun shop, and so do you, so why are we surprised when you see them on TV?

i see numorous ppl in gunshops and the ones that act like mall ninjas or are not following the safty rules are asked to behave or leave

firearm ownership can be very fun just like driving or taking martial arts or various other things the problem is its a dangerous hobby there is a chance for someone to be hurt or even die

blatently showing thousands of ppl that its ok to be a dumbass should be enough for someone to force them to change the show or take it off the air

this is our hobby our sport our protection dont stand for one jackass to make us look stupid and unsafe

Have watched the show and like it, I like the host also. I didn't like him pointing the laser at the customer though. Overall it seems light hearted and makes buying a gun look like a trip to the grocery store, "normal". Want to add that I couldn've done without the stupid scalpel joke too.

I watched the episode last night at midnight ("The Rockers"). Within 5 minutes, my forehead hurt (from me smacking it repeatedly with my palm).

If I hear one more moron tell someone that you don't have to aim a shotgun.... :banghead:

Television show about a gun store? Our media incontrol of content? Can you see a disaster ready to happen here? Boycott it, call showtime and demand they not show this. It won't have good results for us!

"The Soup", a daytime TV & talkshow "highlight" show on E! Entertainment Network had a spot on their show last week highlighting the Beavis-USPS-Employee character fondling the AK. (30sec segment with snide remarks about gun buying requirements shown) As expected, the show will be great anti-gun propaganda now going beyond what limited viewer-ship the Showtime program has on it's own.
