Mods: I wasn't really sure whether to post this here or under Firearm Accessories, since it's kind of a legal question about a firearm accessory. Feel free to move this as you see fit.

I was browsing the knives at Atlanta Cutlery today, and was surprised to see that they sell holster-stocks for the Mauser broomhandle and Luger pistols.

I was under the impression that it was no longer legal to produce holster stocks. I always thought that the originals were exempt from SBR status, but that they were no longer legal to produce. Would there be any legal complications with the use of this stock, or would the exemption for the pistol simply extend to the new stock?

I've wanted a Broomhandle for a long time. I'm excited to see that I won't have to pay a king's ransom for a stock if/when I get one.

Depends on the type of C&R pistol
for example Broomhandles and certain lugers are legal with a reproduction holster stock so long as said stock duplicates the exempted original.
Inglis High Powers, Radoms and others tho must be original manufacture

mere possession of ONLY the stock is no issue what so ever. Now if it can be shown that you had under your control a stock and a non exempted pistol you could get hit.
Treasury has been AC/DC on stocks for years. For example you can use an exact repro stock on a exempted Belgian P35 Hi Power variant but its a NFA violation to fit a reproduction stock on a CH prefixed Inglis Hi Power, with the Inglis it MUST be the stock originally issued with the gun. Practically every stocked Inglis out there you see has a fake stock on it but thankfully ATFE has not caught up on enforcing this ruling as yet

My guess is that it depends on just how badly the feds want to bust you (i.e., whether the officer in charge had a "good night" with his significant other within the past week, if you get my meaning). I have a "Bolo" broomhandle, made in early 1922, cased in a "briefcase"-type setup with a Chinese-made repro stock/holster, cleaning rod, original lanyard, and stripper clips & ammo, plus a couple spare parts (hammer pivot/spring combo & safety).
