I don't get it. Kentucky is already an open carry state. What would this bill actually accomplish?

Is it just re-affirming existing laws?

yes, see post #20

Walking around with a gun (rifle) could get you in trouble if it's not hunting season. The bill basally says you can now without having to worry about it. This was implied already but needed to be clarified.

A nice pro gun gesture by the sponsor, and certainly nice for anyone hiking with a firearm, but shouldn't change things from how they already were.

You could already legaly open carry.
You can now legaly open carry while not hunting for sure.

I guess game wardens or LEO were harassing people for hunting violations as they pertained to weapons when they were not hunting?
What exactly caused this bill that re-affirms a pre existing ability people already had?

Cheers nothing will change but nothing is worse!

The OP had me all excited thinking we would have to start saying Vermont, Alaska, AND Kentucky carry.

Sorry if my wording implied something I didn't mean it to but I did include a link to the news page. Kentucky is and has been an open carry state, no permit required. Does anyone know since what year?

HB 419 permits an individual, at any time and during any season, to use a deadly weapon to kill or attempt to kill an animal in self-defense, in defense of another person, or for humane reasons.

I can't help wondering if "humane reasons" extends to controlling the population of PETA.
