I just got a new Lock n Load AP and I am having an indexing issue. When I i finger tighten the shell plate the press starts to bind when indexing, and if I put the allen wrench on it and turn it any amount (1/2 wrench flat) it completely binds. Any ideas on what to look at or adjust?

This man gives some great info, for new LNL AP owners, 76Highboy Reloading. Pick the one that gives info on indexing, or watch them all.

make sure its very clean under the shell plate and the detent balls have a small spot of grease on them. The body and shaft should be lubed. Is it binding with a shell in it while you're loading or while empty?

Update - today I bought another shell plate. This one I can tighten down and it works great no binding. It is a #16 but my #8 and #10 still bind. Reasonable to think that it is the shell plate. Just have to figure out why and fix it

Pull up on the cap screw and make sure the hub is all the way up when you tighten it.

Just make sure you get on the phone with tech support...sorry to hear the problems, strange that the new shell plate works fine but not the others

Make sure you did not end up with the old style plates that don't have the groove cut to accommodate the EZ-Ject system.

There was a spell when Hornady put out some warped plates. Check that. They will replace them if they are.

Does it bind without the spring that holds cases in?
Remember when you first put the spring on you need to feed it under the plate with your finger until it is in the correct position.
(Doubt it's something this simple but just a thought)

Yes it binds without the spring but only with the #8 and #10 shellplates the new #16 shell plate I can tighten down and functions flawlessly

Call Hornady Tech Support (not customer service) and explain the problem. They will know what to do. You may have 2 defective shell plates and they will replace. If it's something defective in the press, have them ship it back for adjustment. I have 2 presses which are great but one had problems after set up. I called Hornady the next morning and they arranged for UPS to pick it up the next day. I had it back in 6 days and have never had to touch it after 50,000 rounds.

The warped shell plates can be easily checked with a metal straight edge. Most of those showed up when they switched over form the wire ejector to the EZ-eject. They had a procedure for reworking the old style and if not done properly they warped. Another check is to see if you have ~0.125 shell holder height. This is measured from the recessed area to the base. You can use the depth gauge on the caliper end to measure this. I had one shell plate that they missed this and could not properly size the brass. They replaced it as expected. This should not stop the shell plate form turning unless they miss cut the bottom groove for the ejector nub on the base.

You should have a clearance of about 0.002-0.005" between the shell plate and base. Spec allows up to 0.010" clearance. But at this clearance brass will tilt with the spring pressure.

In any case contact Hornady and they will correct the problem.

I called Hornady and they sent me a label to send in the shell plates. I will send them in tomorrow and wait to hear back.

I had one of the warped plates. It was for .45 ACP. The way I finally figured it out was to remove the plate and look at the underside. If it's binding, there will be polished, shiny spots around the perimeter in the places that are dragging.

Hornady sent me a new plate in exchange for the defective one.

Update: the two shell plates were warped, Hornady sent replacements and now indexes beautifully, now if I can just keep the primer can arm from popping off the spring loaded button on the base I will be in heaven

Check highboy76 youtube video I think it's #44 or #45 regarding the adjustment of the cam follower to adjust the priming mechanism. There is a slight amount of adjustment needed. Also make sure the follower is installed right side up.
