New Mexico has a 7 day waiting period coming

Poverty. Its one of the poorest of states that are dependent on Federal dollars.

(Born and raised in NM)
But its an odd dynamic. Lots of money in New Mexico in places like Santa Fe, Taos, and Ruidoso. We were looking to buy a vacation home in Taos, but a decent 1000 sq ft house costs $700K

Shoot... look at Texas. If you were to believe the stereotype, everyone carries a gun, drives a pickup truck, and has at least 100 head of cattle in the back 40... but the reality of politics means the typically liberal metro areas dictate legislation and restrictions. Texas is big... but Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, and Houston dictate the political trend by virtue of population.
A simple look at the legislation passed over the last 5 years will dispel that idea. The details are political, but Texas hasn't turned purple nor blue as predicted.

Private home sales have little to do with anything in Tourist areas.

You can walk into a 7-Eleven in Dallas and take up to $75 worth of goods, walk out... and not be prosecuted. Everything starts at the local level. There is an undercurrent of Liberalism here in Texas, make no mistake. Is it enough to turn Texas purple? The last time Ted Cruz ran for reelection, he just about lost to a Socialist punk, 51%/48% ...so, please don't tell me it can't happen, or there is not a concerted effort to turn Texas.

Home Depot's policy in Hobbs, NM has been to let them walk out the door and go on their way for years. Walmart, several blocks to the west will stop them and call the cops. Then the DA lets them walk away. At least Walmart get's their stuff back. The DA is up for reelection this fall. I know of three votes that will go to one of her opponents in the primary.

A few years ago my wife suggested visiting Santa Fe (almost rhymes with Tina Fe(y) :( ), but I wasn't interested in visiting another satellite of Denver (I've recently stayed there on business), ie the Mothership Colony of California.

A 7-day waiting period easily could allow a woman to be denied adequate protection against an ex-, or other stalker psycho.
There might be evidence that women have died, children orphaned because of such laws while they wait and wait.
A woman was killed in New Jersey after she petitioned to get a permit to purchase before Bruen. She had police report after police report of being stalked and attacked by her ex. While Chris Christie was Governor and thr state was slow-rolling her permit to purchase, she was murdered by her Ex in her driveway.

Edit to add

New Mexico has really lost it. I used to count it among the free states. Hopefully it will swing back that way. Here in Illinois we have a 3-day waiting period. I've been planning a murder for 6 years, so the 3-day wait is nothing really.

^^^ Just kidding about that planning a murder part. Trying to make a point.

Remember, also, she already had a Restraining Order in place against said ex. When seconds count, the police are mere minutes away.

Lived in NM in the 90’s. Loved it. Just think you can always move to NY. We do t have a waiting period. Well except for pistol permits. Took me 18 months.

It was an entirely different place in those days. When our current governor took over is when it really went to hell. At least she terms out this time but what I see waiting in the wings is no better.

Not only are gun laws becoming onerous we just had a carbon reduction bill sent to her desk that is predicted to raise prices 50 cents a gallon for gasoline. This in one of the poorest states in the nation and as the 5th largest driving distances to anything are long for a lot of us so it makes no sense as does most of what comes out of Santa Fe. Living very close to Texas when this law takes effect I will buy my gasoline in Texas. If I feel the need for another rifle it will most likely be purchased in Texas. Poo to you, guv, and all your cohorts.

Yeh, Colorado has a new 3 day waiting period. My wife wants me to retire now so that we can move out of here but I am trying to hold out another 2 and a half years ( higher pension). All I know is that it will be the longest couple of years in my life.
FL has had waiting periods since the early 1990s. 😐 FL Republicans increased 'em in 2018.

The 3 day waiting period isn’t why we want to move, just stating that we have one also. The reason we want to move is do to absolutely disgusting and vile values this state has come to celebrate, I can’t get into more do to the political nature.

Here's a secret.... any and all politicians will sell you out if the political winds are blowing in a direction that benefits them for doing so. Florida's Republicans did so after Parkland in 2018 and the end result was they gained more seats because they campaigned that they did something the Democrats couldn't do. Pass gun control in Florida.

Colorado is about to introduce a bill requiring firearms owners to carry liability insurance on their firearms

Keep it up and you can become Illinois II. A state run by one county out of 102. Where all five branches of government are Democrat: Governor Blubba, house, senate, courts, and the media.

Another reasonable control of guns.

Nibble, nibble, nibble.

"No right is absolute."

The problem is this allows for reasonable restrictions on rights, with no limit on reasonable.

I say again: "No limit on reasonable."
