I need to know the best 300 grain elk bullet for my Knight. I like the Barnes bullets, but they don't shoot well out my gun. Seem to see a lot of elk on the shows need more than one shot and I like to do everything in the most humane way possible..

Well, what might be best for my gun might not be best for yours, and vice versa.

I would think that you would want to try out several different selections for your particular rifle, and that nobody else can tell you what will be best. As I know that NM Elk hunts are not cheap, it would be to your benefit to spend some time at the range.

Don't neglect the Buffalo Bullet company. I have a 54 cal 1-32 twist CVA and their bullet in 460 grains shoots the best out of mine. Powerbelts will only hit a barn if I am in it. The Buffalo bullets fit very tight in the bore. They have a taper to them so they go straight in the bore when loaded. I think this is one of the reasons they shoot so good. Give them a try.

If you look at this page to compare bullets, there are reviews for just about all of them.
The Cabela's Dead Center 300 grain, the TC XTP Mag 300 grain bullet and the Knight Bullets are all very well rated.
People have raved about the accuracy of the Dead Centers, (and I think that they are made by this famous outfit: http://www.prbullet.com/ ). Check them out! :)

If the preceeding page is too long, try this other page listing the same bullets and click on the various bullets for comparison and user reviews:

I just harvested a cow elk here in Nevada with a Hornady Sabot,.50cal 300 GR SST. It was propelled by 150 grains of triple 7(pellet) out of a TC omega, one shot and she was down - the bullet completely fragmented inside, with one shard exiting. I highly recommend the Hornady Sabots.

Best Bullet

You need to spend some time and money trying different powders and bullets to see what works best for your rifle.I went to the range twice last week trying different loads. After about $100 and six hours I found a good combination.Everything I was trying was giving me a 4'' group at 100yds. which was not good enough for me.I tried 3 different loose powders and pyrodex pellets with powerbelts and sabots, all with the same results. When I changed to 777 pellets with a 300 grn. platnum powerbelt,my group dropped to an inch & a quarter.I had to use a Federal 209 primer, the 777 primer had a slight delay in ignition.I didn't try the 777 pellets with the sabots,I only had two left.My point is,get busy at the range.

The Barnes bullet you like might shoot great with a different powder.
