Thanks

WOW! --many, many variables at work!!

There shouldn't be much difference in barrel life. Each will succumb to hot loads, poor cleaning practices, high rates of fire, etc with equal ease.

The forged barrels I've had tended to show better accuracy than button barrels when new, so you might notice accuracy fall-off with a forged piece that simply wouldn't show with a button barrel.

The best example I can offer are my two Ruger No 1s. One has a forged, broach-cut, "Krupp's Stahl" (high chrome & molybdinum alloy steel) barrel in .30-'06. The other has a standard, subcontractor-supplied Ruger button barrel in .375 Hollands' Magnum. Each has had hundreds of rounds fired through them (Really! A .375 isn't all that bad, especially with a heavy scope, Mag-Na-Porting and a laminate, thumbhole stock! :what:) over twenty years and both continue to print 1 MOA groups.

Clean carefully and practice, practice, practice. . . .

Not trying to sound like a smart alec here, but try searching it. I know that there was a post a year or so back in which the differences were discussed at length.....
