I’ve be wanting to build an AR10 for some time now, but always put it off for one reason or another.
I have several bolt action rifles in 308, but no semi autos. I also have several thousands of rounds of 308.
I did decide that I would use Aero Precision parts if I built one, and had already checked on pricing. Then the other day, Primary Arms started a sale which listed a lot of Aero Precision products. They listed complete lowers and upper without the BCG and charging handle. The prices were cheaper then it would cost me to buy the parts and built myself.
So, I ordered a complete lower with the Magpul PRS Lite Stock, in FDE. The only thing that I plan to change on it is the fire control group.

I really like the Aero Atlas S-1 handrail. They have the upper with the rail with 16 and 18 inch barrels. I’m still on the fence, on which one I should get, both are the same price.
Hopefully by this afternoon I will makeup my mind.

I put together a PSA AR10 with their 20" barrel, with tax and transfer I'm into it for just under 750. I'll eventually upgrade the trigger, but I really like it now, it really makes you concentrate on your trigger movement. I like the way the lower looks and feels so much I ordered a complete AR 15 lower that comes with a Gisele super semiautomatic enhanced trigger for 3 bills. Here's a pic next to little sister, the scope needs taller rings but still fun and pretty accurate. Screenshot_20230630-135522_Gallery.jpg Have fun with yours when it's done, I bet it'll be awesome.

I’ve built several and have used several different triggers. I have a LaRue Tactical MBT 2S trigger, still in the package that I might use, but then I do like the Hiperfire triggers, and may order one of their Hipertouch triggers.

Definitely watching this thread. Palmettostatearmory.com has Geissele triggers on sale. Buying one for my 20' 308 PA10. Already added the heavier PRS stock, Geissele trigger in the mail.

Not an AR10 but this build has some similar features to what you are describing but I mostly want to commend your choice of the S-1 hand guard. It is really nice.

I put this 450 BM AR together not long ago. I used the Aero XL upper and the Atlas S-1 hand guard.

The lower is a Spikes that I sourced locally. I also wanted one with an integrated enlarged trigger guard. I put a CMC single stage 3.5 lb trigger in it. 18” McGowan barrel.

I got all the Aero items for this build when Brownells was having a sale. I must say, I really like the Atlas S-1 handguard. Very light and slim in the hand.

Have the newer .308 lowers being made, overcome the issue of having different uppers being placed on them?

I want to build one but in the past, you basically had to stick to one manufacturer. I've heard that some of the newer ones are being made to overcome this.

What companies are selling them?

That hasn’t been true for at least the 24yrs I’ve been building them. There were two formats for decades, then 3. We see incompatibility for some billet lowers with certain oversized parts, but by and large, if you could tell a left glove fit a left hand, and a right glove fit a right, you can build an LFAR without issues.

I’ve decided to go with the 18” barrel.
Now it’s time to look for a charging handle.

Not that this is your first AR build or anything but I have always like extended latch charging handles. It seems like the best way to get one in expensively is by buying an extended latch separately and installing it onto a GI CH.

On my recent build I found one by Strike Industries with a very moderate extension called the Arch-EL. They make it for LFAR BCGs as well.

I’ve been a fan of the Strike Industries for several years. I have the Arch charging handle with the extended latch on several of my ARs.
Right now it’s a toss up between Strike Industries and the Areo charging handle.

Good luck with your build, Gunny!

I recently gave in to an impulse and got one. The shop/indoor range where I do my FFL transfers had a complete one in the display case while I was picking up my Tisas 1911. The owner knocked 25% off for me so the temptation was too much. It’s Aero Precision as far as receivers, hand guard, & gas block. CMC 2.5# trigger and a LuthAR stock. The only problem is it won’t cycle. The smith at the shop has worked on it twice. He replaced the buffer, then the spring. I watched him empty a magazine the other day. Working fine. Today at the outdoor range it isn’t cycling again. I noticed the gas block is canted a degree or two. I really like it. Hope we get it going, and Gunny I hope to see yours when it’s done!

I don't have any AR10's but I have shot a few and while I have no intention of getting into .308 I really enjoyed the Ruger AR10 I shot. Sort of made me want one. Recoil was not bad at all and I too have used LaRue MBT 2S on lowers and I recall thinking the LaRue trigger would be excellent on a scoped AR10 rifle. If you wanted it to be more of a battle rifle you could always use the heavier spring that comes with em that nobody uses. But with that lighter powered spring, it truly does have one of the crispiest, icicle like breaks....

I’ve got two of the heavy springs, in the cans they came in. For a battle rifle, I prefer the Hiperfire heavy gunner trigger. The MBT 2S trigger is wider then the Hiperfire.

I know the LaRue isn't the lightest trigger on the market. But it is impressively crisp, especially for under $100 because I think it's a contender with many other higher $$$ triggers. I'd be lying if I said during the first few outings using the MBT I didn't accidentally prematurely touch off a couple shots that surprised me after first stage take up.

I hope that you’re able to get it running. ARs are not difficult to work on, but the person working on them do have to know what they are doing.

I remember when the MBT was expensive. LaRue built a new building just to make the MBT triggers and was able to get the cost down. I bought my first one years ago when they put them on sale. I don’t need a three lbs or less trigger on a rifle. I’m not a long range paper asinine.

The 18” upper and BCG are on their way.
I still need to find a charging handle and figure out what optics I want to put on it.
The only charging handle I've used other than mil spec are the cheap presma ones from justrails.
Seems DMRish did you see Arken dropped their new LPVO 1-8X?
