After a number of years searching for a good Remington 788 in 30-30, I gave up and bought a barrel for my TC carbine in that caliber. My other TCs have given superb accuracy with a variety of handloads (223, 357, 44, 45, 30-30 in the pistol, 223, 45-70, 50 cal ML, as well as 22rf.) Took two years to find this one.
My objective is to work up accuracy loads with spbt, hpbt, as well as cast bullets from 115 up to 200 grains.
I know this not an action to hot rod and that is not my goal. Just need a project to work on along with my new Savage 223 varmint rifle and my CZ 22 target gun.
I'll report back later on first and subsequent results
Did lots of cast bullet load development in the 60s-80s with 45-70, 30-06, 308, and know how to alloy, heat treat, age harden and load.
Coming off a long convolescence after back surgery and subsequent infections, it is good to get back behind the scope.

Just a FYI. I have a TC Contender pistol with a super 14" barrel in 30-30. I load 125 gr Nosler BT's and IMR 4198 powder and get accuracy of under 1" when I do good from the bench.

Deer 'smacker' too!

Thanks, Critter. Have some of those that I'll put on the "try" list.

I have the the same pistol as critter, 14" .30-30 barrel and the 125 Nosler BTs as well. I also have been able to get under an inch group with a 1-4 scope. H4895 powder here.

So I guess I say "Ditto" to critter.
