I've been wanting to put together a 6.5 Creedmoor for a while now. Midways sale/clearance on the Leupold Mk4 a couple weeks ago gave it a little boost. Once I had the scope I managed to convince my wife to let me get a rifle to put under it.

I ordered a 5-R in 6.5 Creedmoor last week. 24" threaded stainless barrel Cerakoted black. HS Precision stock. I also picked up a Leupold 20 MOA rail, Vortex medium rings, and some dies, brass, and bullets to go with it. The x-mark pro is decent as far as factory triggers go, but I've already switched it out with a Timney 510 thin set at 1.75 lbs

Even though it was 37* today and the wind was blowing/gusting 10-20 mph, I couldn't wait any longer to shoot it.

I broke in the barrel the way I usually do, and in the process ran 50 rounds of the Hornady American Gunner 140bthp through it. I shot a few 5 round groups @100 yds during break in. They were all right at 1" or a little more. I think it will do better on a calmer day and once I get some more trigger time. My hands were freezing and I'm out of practice so I certainly wasn't doing it any favors, lol. Wasn't sure what to expect recoil wise, but it's not bad at all. I honestly think my son's Ruger American Compact in .243 may be worse haha.

I think it's got some potential. I'm going to load up some Matchkings over H4350 this week and hopefully do some load testing next weekend. I'm pretty confident with some more trigger time the groups will tighten up, especially when I find a hand load it likes.

So far I'm loving this gun., cant wait to shoot it again.

My brother has a 5R in 308. It shoots very well.

Nice stick! With some more rounds downrange and some handholds it likes (and something less than 10-20 mph winds!), it should easily get down to under 1 MOA. If my ADL can, a 5R certainly will. Let us know how it goes.

Did a little load development this weekend, loading 5 rounds of each charge and going up .2 gn at a time. Velocity stabilized around 41-41.2 gns, but the 41gn of H4350 under a Sierra 140gn matchking was the most accurate. I had a nice 5 shot group going but I pulled one. I'm going to load some more of these to make sure they stay this accurate, but it looks like <.5 moa shouldn't be a problem.
Velocity was avg 2640, 10.04 sd

Trying to decide whether to chase more velocity or just go with this load.

Looking better. The gun will settle in to, check your action screws after the first 100 rounds. Don't think you need anymore speed, you have plenty off turret for the 6.5.

I do like you bench, does it fold to.

Thats what I was thinking, should be plenty of velocity to stay supersonic past 1000yds, and it's soft shooting.

Thanks, the bench doesn't fold unfortunately. I built it a few weeks ago. I wanted something stable yet not super heavy, so I could load/unload it and carry it by myself. It's worked awesomely so far.

The 5r’s are really nice-o have the 20” 308 and 300 win mag, they’re among the most accurate rifles I own -have hit 1/2” groups numerous times with both using my handloads

Like the entire package...a lot, including the trigger (have fun smith that works then really really well for $75)

If I weren’t already set on 6.5’s I’d want to get. one like you got.

enjoy!

Question about sunshades. The angle of the sun can sometimes be problematic at our range (you can see from the shadows in the pics above that I'm kind of shooting towards the sun)
The sun on the lens makes focusing a little weird at times, so I plan on adding a sunshade to minimize the effect.

My question is, 2.5" or 4" ?

Is there any advantage to one over the other?

Got the sunshade installed and took it out this afternoon. Perfect day IMO with temps in the mid 50's and sunny with a very light intermittent breeze.

Also scored 4 lbs of H4350 from a guy on a local forum this morning. It's been nearly impossible to find around here.

Took it out to 200 for the first time. I definitely need some more trigger time and to get more consistent with everything

Realized when I got set up that I forgot to bring targets...
but I had a few stick on 2" shoot-n-c's and some 3/4" pasters in my range bag, so I stuck them on the back of a silhouette target I had in my tool box.

Everything was under or at MOA, but I think a better shooter would do a better job. Hopefully as the round count goes up that better shooter will be me, lol.
