Hmm....seems Savage is addressing the issues some have with their triggers and stocks. Way to go!

McMillian stock eh? May be time to get my 700P a friend. :)

Just got a quote on a McMillian A2 with adjustable cheek piece from tacticalstocks.com for a 700P. $450.
 
Well according to the Savage Arms website the 10FP with choate basic stock is $566, the Choate Ultimate Varmiter model is $684, and the McMillian model is $912.

So if my math is correct $346 for the McMillian stock..or darn near it.

Not sure I am willing to pay that, but if any of you decide to take the plunge...I might be interested in your after market Savage stocks...
 
But figure the MSRP to be nearly a hundred dollars over street price.

I've never seen anyone with the stones to offer a Savage at retail. :p

Just kidding. Ha ha. I put the Sharp Shooter Supply varmint stock ($250) on my 10fp and it improved groups considerably. But most importantly, the stiffness of the varmint stock inspires confidence just from the fit and feel of it. That thing that Savage shipped with my rifle was laughable. ha ha.

Yeah... in my neck of the woods, a 12FVSS goes for $359 and a 10FP goes for $399 or $409. With similar price reductions, the Model 10FP-LE2B - McMillan Stock will still be around $665. That's a good $30 more than a 700VS or $25 less than a 700 PSS. Granted, McMillan makes a good stock but so does HS Precision.

Hang on -- just realised in Aussie dollars, with the exchange rate and dealer mark-up, it's gonna cost me about $1200 for the McMillan stock .... :what:
 
...So...I've been out to the website, and taken a look. I'm happy that they're offering better options for the stocks, but--

What IS that thing on the trigger?!? I read about the new Accu-trigger, and I think, "GREAT!! Savage has finally taken the omnipresent criticism about their triggers to heart, and they've done something about it!" And then I read more, and I look at it, and my reaction turns to, "Well, s**t."

Is it SO hard to make a normal trigger properly, anymore? Is this something that's beyond the capabilities of the manufacturing base? AAAAARRRRGGHHH!!!!!

If Savage could make the 10FP with a decent trigger (without all of the hoodoo), a decent stock, and offer it for, say, $550, they'd rule the world!! :fire:

So, anybody actually gotten to PLAY with one of these things? Tell me I'm jumping the gun. Tell me that it's actually a great innovation, it shoots sweet, and it won't wear blisters in your trigger finger. Come on...somebody!!! :(

All that said, I'm still probably about to buy another one (an old-run one, if I can get one, and I'll put a new stock on it, and work on the trigger!)!!! :D
 
I replaced stock savage trigger with a sharpshooter trigger and it's a world of difference. If you like the savage, buy it and replace it with the sharpshooter unit.
 
Well, unless some defect becomes apparent when the production units hit the market, I'll probably end up with a laminate gun with the new fangled trigger. A Savage is on my short list, and I had planned on replacing the trigger unit anyway, before they announced the Accu-Trigger contraption. Worst case is that the new trigger design sucks, and I end up replacing it after all.
 
Savage 10FP LE2

I have the Savage 10FP LE2. I like it and it's very accurate with Winchester Supreme 168 gr match.

The trigger is alot better than the last couple of Savages I shot that friends have. The trigger has no creep - slight squeeze to the rear and "BOOM".

I will agree the stock sucks and I am looking at the Choate's Ultimate Sniper Stock - it looks like it will do the job. Any views on that stock? Besides being green?

So far I have added a set of Harris Bi-pods 9" - 13" and I will be replacing it - but I have a BSA 4-16x40AO Mil Dot sitting on top of it. Had it and needed a scope to test the rifle and off to the range we went.

Looking at the Bushnell 4200 4x16x50AO for it.......
 
Before you run out and get the Ultimate Sniper Stock, please do searches on other boards (TFL, GlockTalk, and 1911Forum).

Several others have posted negative posts concerning this stock. I have also seen a review at Snipershide and several other sites.

Most prefer the Ultimate Varmint Stock over the Sniper.

Having handled both the Sniper and Varmint versions loaded up with PSS', I wouldn't buy the Sniper. Just not for me, and not built very good IMHO. But I would gladly get myself the Varmint.

I will admit I say it before on a net search on the sight and then a read a good review on one of the sniper sites and then again on the movie: Ballistic: ECKS VS SEVER and thought it might be looking into.

Really don't have a need for a sniper stock - put it goes nice with the rest of the "tactical" side of my collection. Besides taking out coyotes at about 500 yards with a sniper rifle should be fun.
