This is the new walking staff my wife bought me for Christmas. I think I’m going to like it now that I’ve removed and thrown away the “Made in China” tag that was on it. ;)
It’s 47” long, about 5/8” in diameter (not counting the end cap) at the bottom, and about 2” in diameter at the top. However, it’s only about 1 5/8” in diameter where I hold onto it. It weighs right at 2lbs.
As you can see, you can pull the end cap off exposing a short spike which should come in handy this time of year when there’s a lot of ice around that I sometimes have to walk on. I don’t have any idea what kind of wood it’s made out of. It seems stout enough though, and I should be able use it for intimidating the unfriendly farm and ranch dogs around here that would rather intimidate me when I’m out on my exercise walks.
Now if I can just get used to how my new staff looks. I think it’s unique and fancy looking and will probably draw a lot of attention when I’m carrying it in town. I don’t much like drawing attention, and a regular old wooden cane would probably draw less.

My dad would turn 100 right after the 1st of the year. But we lost him 10 years ago. In his latter years he needed a cane but wouldn’t use one.

My brother gave him a similar staff and he loved it. Carried it everywhere

In light of this development I suggest you change your THR handle from .308 Norma to .308 Gandalf.

I have a small collection of canes and staffs I’ve put together from my travels around the world. Most would work well as an auxiliary defensive implement. Yours looks up to the task should it be needed in that capacity.

I was an avid fly fisher in my much younger days. Wading in swift water requires a wading staff. In those days I paid about 1/2 what Folstaff costs today. This thing is carried in a belt holster, I have felt myself starting to fall, it deployed fast enough to break my fall. At 82 YO I sometimes now have trouble keeping my balance. I use a cane and my old Folstaff similar to this.
