You think ONE is fun? Try a pair in the black powder Frontiersman category in cowboy action. It's not at all unusual to have to duck to look under the cloud of smoke to see the targets for the last few shots..... :D

If you go with an 1860, be aware that the front sight is set up for something around a 100 yard zero. A lot of us have bumped them out and replaced them with a taller front sight and then filed it down to suit our POI at more realistic handgun distances. So don't be surprised when you find them hitting about a foot high at 15 yards or so. Both the Uberti and Pietta will be similar on this issue.

Here's a write up I did on replacing the front sight with a taller one which I made up. You can do the work all with hand tools if you're at all handy with a hacksaw and a few files.

Here's a thread I wrote about making my own taller front sights. The posts with the procedure starts at Post #12. The good news is that if you mess it up it's about a dime's worth of steel you ruin. Just try again until you get one that fits. The only real secret is padding the barrel with some wood in your bench vise to hold it securely without marking it .

If you don't want to deal with this front sight issue but still want a black powder revolver then look at picking up a Remington 1858 clone. They tend to come with a tall front sight which needs trimming more than extending. And that's easy to do with a couple of light file strokes and a dab of touch up blue.
