I've carried a small 380 occasionally for the past ten years or so. The first one was a Kel-Tec P3AT. I replaced that with an LCPII. I think I'm going to be replacing the Ruger with this Kahr.

I'll carry a micro 380 when I literally can't carry anything else (light clothing), or when keeping one in my breast pocket is my easiest and quickest draw. I can shoot softball-sized groups with one NP at seven yards, and that meets my personal requirements for SD.

The P3AT had little nubs for sights and a terrible trigger. The LCPII has better sights and trigger, but the recoil is kinda snappy. I'd heard that the Kahr 380's are a little smaller and a little less snappy, and I have a few other Kahrs I like a lot, so...

I got this used CW380 for $288 OTD. It came with one 6-round magazine. The insides look pretty good. I'd guess it was carried some, but not shot very much. Someone put grip tape on it, which doesn't bother me.

People either like Kahrs or don't (weird, huh). They're small, light, single-stack CC pistols in 380, 9mm, 40, or 45acp. They're striker-fired DAO with no manual safety. If you like shooting DA revolvers, you'll probably like shooting Kahrs. The triggers feel like a DA revolver trigger.

I shot 50 rounds of cheap range ammo through the Kahr CW380 today.

Not so great things
- The recoil springs are tight. Racking it is harder than most pistols. The two uncaptive and tight recoil springs make it annoying to reassemble. The end of the inner spring kept wanting to go where I didn't want it. I had two malfunctions shooting it: a failure to feed due to racking the slide incompletely, and a failure to feed due to me accidentally clicking on the mag release button. Both were purely operator error.

Things I like: It went bang every time I operated it correctly. The sights are fine, big enough to use. I like Kahr triggers, and this one is very nice. I can control it just fine with only two fingers on the grip. I bought a pinky extension and a spare mag, but I won't need the pinky extension. It fits my XXL hands a bit better than the LCPII. The recoil is a little less snappy, possibly because the bore axis is a bit lower. It shot well for me. Softball-sized groups were NP from seven yards standing, and I did a little better than that with two mags sitting down from ten yards.

I'll shoot the CW380 and the Kahr back-to-back next time, and if I like the Kahr better, I'll probably start carrying it instead (after 200 or so trouble-free rounds). It's a little smaller than the Ruger, and I already know I like the trigger a little better.

I'm a revolver guy, so Kahrs are a good fit for me. The 45acp version was easily my favorite small 45 I'd shot, and I eventually realized that the PM9 was my favorite CC 9mm out of many. Now I've added the 380. I still prefer to carry a revolver, but the Kahrs are an acceptable substitute when they fit my clothing and/or activity better. :)

Anyone else out there like Kahrs? Do you carry one?

Feel free to also chime in on micro 380's. They have their detractors and... tractors? Some feel they're adequate for SD, and some feel they're adequate for hurting your hand and missing the target. :)

Oh, and there's the ammo thing. I shoot FMJ through my 380's. Some folks prefer hollow points.

I had ideas of getting a Kahr line up going. I had a PM 45 and a PM 9. The PM380 or whatever that miniature version was was next. I ended up just sticking with the Glock 26 for most of it... I'm glad yours is working out for you.

I have the P380, the CW9 and the PM9. My daughter currently has the CW9 on her CCW. I have the other two on mine. I’ve shot many 380s and the Kahr is the most comfortable and accurate for me. I use my left thumb along the side to put slight pressure on the frame to help with accuracy. This 380 is always with me in a Recluse holster. It works in my back pocket, my right front pocket or a cargo pocket depending on the pants I’m wearing.

I have a CW45,CW9, the CW380, and my wife carries a CW9mm.
I like the Kahrs, but presently carry a Sig P365.
I used to carry the 380 in my left shirt pocket and would do so again if the situation called for it without hesitation.

I've got a bunch of Kahr 9mm's, I carry one every day. I think the 9mm is the very sweet spot in the Kahr lineup... didn't care so much for the .45ACP, and I would imagine the .40 is pretty snappy in a small poly gun like a CW40. I was very, very tempted to get a Kahr .380... last gun show I went to I was holding one in my hands, with the angel on one shoulder (don't do it, save your money...) and the devil on the other (do it! You NEED this pistol!) I chose the path of righteousness... and left it on the counter, but with some regret.

I'm glad yours is a good one, it sounds! I know the small .380 had some teething problems at first, but I would think they should be worked out by now. I may very well pick one up if I can find one languishing on a used pistol counter, priced right.

I bought a used 380 and had a couple of jams.
I suspect that is why the gun was for sale.

I gently polished the sharp bottom edge of the extractor which I iimagine would happen during the 200 round break in.
Haven’t had a problem since.

I agree about the 9mm. Been carrying the PM9 IWB lately because of weather and shirt lengths and such. It's so easy to carry and easy to shoot. For me the 380 and 45 are more for unusually small or large pockets.

I recall the polymer 40 as being snappy but manageable. I haven't shot it since recovering from a hand injury. I plan on shooting it again soon. The steel 40 caliber is NBD. I thought that the 45acp version was more manageable than any other really small 45acp pistol I've shot, for what that's worth. :)

I have owned and pocket carried a PM9 since 2006.
Bought a P45 around '08, carried it for a while IWB and/or pocket carry but never liked it as well as the PM9.
Still have it, though.

Bought a PM45 and thought that would be the perfect compromise but it didn't work out that way. Sold it on.

Bought a CW380 and really liked it. Might have to buy another one--gifted mine to a to female friend getting her LTC after she shot it really well.

I briefly had a CW380. That was probably in a 3 way tie for the worst gun I've ever shot. I am 6'4", strong and healthy, and I could not rack the slide on mine without pushing the slide against a table. The slide serrations were so rounded that I could not grip it tight enough to get the slide back. It would just slip out of my fingers. I couldn't hit a damn thing with it either. Great looking gun. Absolutely awful to shoot. Was also an unreliable feeder with anything but ball. Got rid of it very quickly.

I have a fascinations with kahrs for some reason. I'm on my 4th one now, a CW45, and its the only kahr I've had that was actually a reliable functional firearm. I had a P40 that I really loved but I finally had to give up on it because after months of tuning internal parts on it I was never able to make it reliable. I thought I had it for about 2 months and then the slide stopped locking back and it broke 2 magazine followers. As far as I am concerned Kahr makes the absolute best looking junk on the market and I'll probably buy another P40 because I am stupid and dense.

Originally that was what I wanted... a P45 to take over my carry piece role, this was back when I was carrying a Colt's .380 Government for my daily... I thought that pistol would be the Perfect Solution. But... I stumbled into the CW9 instead, and the rest is history.

I have had 2 .45 Kahrs... finally, a used, full-boat P45 with black slide and night sites. It wasn't a bad pistol, but it did not fit my hand well, for some reason. It shot very well... when it shot. I believe it was short chambered, so I was constantly having misfires with it. I wound up trading it off for another used CW9 and a pile of magazines.

because I am stupid and dense.

Given the cluster I had with the P45, I decided to try it again... and bought a used CW45. Again, it did not fit my hand well. I think it fed and fired fine, but there was a problem with it... I don't recall the issue. I sold it off as well.

So... after all that, I'm down to only 3 CW9's, a CM9, and a PM9.... but that Kahr .380 still tempts me... ;)

I have a P380, like it. In CA on the P380 and the small Sig (238?) were the only things the list so I only had 2 things to chose from in that size.
Was much happier after I got a couple hundred rounds thru it.
Yep Springs are tight, hardest pistol I have to rack.

Good on you, Dudedog.

Unfortunately my P380 experience was quite bad and expensive with all the break-in. It was replaced by the factory on the second return (i'll give the factory credit for actually calling me to confirm it was a dud and I was going to get a new gun). The replacement P380 was OK for 3 full magazines then exhibited the same issues, so again, I burned a lot of ammo to break it in. I really wanted it to work as it is perfect for pocket carry, has great trigger & sights and quite accurate in my hands.

A double disappointment in function - FTF, FTE , frequently the slide did not lock back after the last round (I tried additional mags...). This was with various factory and handloads. Looking back I can't believe I was so committed to getting it worked out. I was glad to finally get rid of it.

I’ve carried a PM9 since they came out. I’ve never had a problem with it in any way. Great carry gun that has my absolute trust. New springs every now and then and off we go.

I bought a P380 couple years back because I wanted a t-shirt and shorts carry. I have a couple mid-size 380s and load them kinda up there without any problem. I got the Kahr and started with that ammo for break-in. Whoa back ‘em up here! Didn’t take long to stop that. The pistol would take it, but not my hands. I started loading closer to minimum. Much better. At 11 ounces, there is not much there to mitigate recoil.

Same with carry ammo. I’d heard they were picky, and I found that to be true. I brought in Critical Defense 90 FTX, HST Micro 99 (I’m an HST fanboy), Federal Punch 85, Remington HTP 85, CorBon 70 PoweRBall, and recently Precision One with XTP bullets in 925 fps (as opposed to their available 975 fps). HST had brutal recoil. HTP had a few FTF as did Punch. CorBon fed well. My favorites were Critical Defense and Precision One neither of which had a FTF, were comfortable to shoot, and quick back on target. I’m happy to pack either.

Once past break-in (I went 500 rounds as opposed to the recommended 200), I’ve changed out a few odd and ends - Ultimate Striker firing pin and anvil by Lakeline (sold by Kahr), stainless striker rod (also Kahr) and lighter spring (Galloway) and MagGuts magazine springs and followers. All has smoothed out and I’m happy with the little gun.

Like it as much as 9mm? Well, not so much, but it’s a sweet summer carry. Accurate.

I think the CW series in both 9 and 380 would be just as good as the P. Save some money.

It’s either like ‘em or hate ‘em. I like ‘em.

I like Kahrs - 380, .45, 9mm - and have several - CM, CW, & CT models. The CW380 needed a trip back to customer service to reach reliability, but the others have been great. It’s odd that Kahr is a “love ‘em!” Or “hate ‘em!” brand.

I’ll admit that I’ve shifted to other higher capacity micro handguns for EDC, because I too am susceptible to liking the new gadget. I’ll occasionally slip one into the EDC role though.

I had a P380. Build quality was excellent as was accuracy and reliability. However, it just didn't fit my hand and I found it difficult to hang onto. The trigger stroke tended to give me a cramp in my palm. I had the same experience with the full size K9 I had many years ago. Ended up selling the P380 and sticking with my Sig P238s. The Kahr was a very nice piece but just didn't work well for me.

Not really... look at the replies in just this thread. The trigger... either you love it (smooth and linear) or hate it (too long.) The reliability... either you love it (mine digests everything!) or hate it (mine jams with everything!) The Kahr customer service... either you love it (they were easy to work with and fixed my pistol...) or hate it (impossible!) The Kahr feature set... either you love it (no safety to snag, good sights, good fit and finish) or hate it (where's the safety? I can't see the sights. I can hardly rack the slide.) Because the Kahrs occupy a very unique position in the world of pistols, it's not a surprise it can polarize some people. In all honesty, I'm a mixed bag... I love the Kahr pistols, but admit I've had trouble with them, or some parts of them... namely the CS (impossible) and the magazines, which are expensive, and have a tendency to split along the spine (at least in the .45ACP version.)

I kind of unintentionally did the same thing with Taurus. I have the full sized .45 (PT1911) compact .45 (PT145) 9mm CCW (Gx4) and .380 pocket gun (TCP 738), as well as a .22 'trainer' for the Gx4 (TX-22C)
I like the trigger on Kahrs, shot a couple, just never bought one. Came close to buying the same gun you just got, a CW 380, but I found the TCP 738 for about half what the CW 380 was.

I'm not usually lucky with gambling or the fairer sex, but none of my six Kahrs has given me any problems. (Knock on wood.)

I'm not usually "into" uniformity, but if my three carry semi-autos all turn out to be Kahrs with the exact same trigger feel and controls, so much the better. Usually I carry a DAO revolver, and that's pretty much the same trigger again...

Oh no! I'm starting to sound like one of those Glock guys (no offense) who won't carry anything else but one of their 12 Glocks. Ugh. It's like waking up and hearing "meow meow meow meow" and suddenly realizing you've become an "old cat lady". :(

I agree with Charlie98 that the 9mm is the sweet spot. My K9 has performed flawlessly for almost 30yrs. I tried a plastic Kahr 9mm but didn't care for the way it felt in my
hand when fired. The weight difference is barely noticeable with a good IWB holster.

Have carried mine for three years now, no problems, to me this is a higher quality pistol than the Rugers and some of the cheaper guns. Mine feeds flat point, hollow points and round nose. Very accurate for a micro .380, nice trigger and very nice looking pistol. Have put 400-500 rounds thru it, it was a little stiff at first but now racks nicely, manual says to put 200 shots for break in, but mine was pretty close to 100% reliable from the start. I won’t carry any gun if it is unreliable no matter who makes it, so far it has my trust!

Had a .380, and a love/hate relationship with it.
Did the break-in, and it ran fine on my reloads, and carry ammo; liked the OEM sights and the revo-like trigger. The recoil was milder than, say, an LCP...
This last was probably due to a recoil spring that started under my old Jeep. It took two men and a boy to rack it, and the racking grooves weren't grippy. IIRC, the Owners Manual demanded that the gun be charged from slide lock, and any short stroke led to a jam. Mine rarely acted up, but clearing a jam, while in a jam, just wouldn't have happened.
Beyond that, a carried, spare, magazine tended to shed its top round...I made leather mag covers that kept it from actually falling out.
Moved on to a G42, which solved all those problems...but still liked the Kahr. It was a little smaller.
