New to the 870, need help

Hey guys just picked up my first 870 today. 26in barrel, vent rib , fiber optic adjustible sites. Oh yeah also came with MOD screw in choke tube.

My question would be, can you run slugs through this barrel? I'm also new to choke tubes. If so what bore tubes am I looking for?

your modified choke will do just fine. try different brands of rifled slugs, not sabots for best accuracy.

You can run the old-style pumpkin ball slugs through your gun with no damage to anything other than your shoulder. Expect no better than 2"-3" accuracy at 50 yards.

FYI The slugs I'm talking about sell for $2.29/5 at most stores this time of year. hub is right. Try three different brands to see which ones you like.

It should do OK, you might want to try an Improved Cylinder choke tube to see if that does better. It might, or might not- shotgun barrels are more magic than science, it seems, and each one is pretty much a law unto itself.

With a smoothbore barrel, stick to Foster type or rifled slugs, no need to spend the money on sabots if you don't have a rifled barrel.
