To my surprise they had a couple boxes of .22 left. When I tried paying with cash they told me they could only take credit or debit. I offered my id but he still said no cash sales. Frightening. I said thanks anyway and walked away

Seems if they can't restrict guns or mags they want ammo depleted and basically registered

Don't count on it. This is the reality of the times we're now living in.

I think it's BS. My local Wally did'nt have a problem when I gave them $600 and my cc for a purchase of a Colt AR.

That's just about the least logical conclusion anyone could have come to based on a single trip to Walmart.

Off one trip to Walmart? Um no. Do you live in a cave?
Are you suggesting you have made multiple trips to multiple Walmarts where they have refused to accept cash with no explanation?

That would be interesting evidence to support your claim that, "they want ammo depleted and basically registered".

Well, I suppose that evidence really wouldn't support the depleted claim, but the lack of ammo seems to be readily attributable to forces we understand.

I'm not having any such problems with Walmart.

Cash is legal tender for all debts, public and private. And though this isn't a "debt", when purchasing goods, I find it difficult to believe that they can successfully turn away a financial transaction that is otherwise legal in all other aspects.

Yes, any business may refuse to do business with anyone...and refuse to take payment, as well. But I find it difficult to believe that this would hold up in court as a general practice.

Not saying all Walmart employees are the least knowledgable people around, but Ive got two (soon to be three) Walmarts less then 10 miles apart and it's highly likely that the casheir had no idea what they where doing. This is, if they are anyting like the employees that work at the Walmarts around my place.

This guy always worked the sporting goods counter

Regardless d like to think it was a fluke but its a non issue as they won't restock ammo after they sell what they have

You posted that there's a new Walmart ammo policy, based on a single episode that you think might be a fluke. Got it.

This is how internet rumors get started.

No a rumor has to not have actually happened. I made this thread so people in other areas can confirm or deny if they experience the same

I think it's BS. My local Wally did'nt have a problem when I gave them $600 and my cc for a purchase of a Colt AR. 41 what kind of Colt ar did you get for $600?

If he was at the sporting goods register, they could have been closing or opening the drawer. If that is the case, then they couldn't accept cash. When I was in high school, working a register at a movie theater, there were multiple times where I was limited to accept cards only. Lets just say there is a reason that particular movie theater is out of business now.

4pm and like I said, regular sporting goods clerk. We'll see if this happens anywhere else

You know the funny thing about Wal-Mart gunstuff rumors is they turn out not to be true, and isolated incidents like this tend to almost always be flukes.

hogshead, I purchased a Colt LE6920 for $1097 + tax, I applied $600 cash and the remander balance went on my credit card.

I have paid with cash at the at the sporting goods register and the clerk had to go get change when I used a $50 bill. Maybe they don't keep as much cash at remote checkout locations (?). Wally's not accepting cash for ammo seems unlikely. Cash is king and no retailer wants to pay merchant switch fees for credit cards.

I've never had that problem, I pay with both depending on what I have on me. If it was policy we would be seeing this at every location in the US

No a rumor has to not have actually happened.

No it's not a rumor, and Wal-Mart actually has changed policies. Great. Source? You'll forgive me if one guy on one trip to one Wal-Mart one time being unable to use cash isn't considered precedent setting for store policy.

My experience with Walmart is that their primary concern is making the sale, so they'll take about any form of payment. The Murphy (Walmart) gas station where I used to live was the only station in town that would take a personal check.

I haven't tried paying with pelts, though...
