I went to the Walmart in Richland PA and the lady at the case told me you can only buy three boxes at a time. I asked her that's only one caliber right? she said nope just three. So they had in one box a .45 acp I snagged it up. I went back today and they only had hunting calibers by that I mean 30-30 and such no .22 they had a few boxes a 7.62x39 but I don't buy the American made stuff for over $20.00 a box when I can get Tula for $5.00. Anyway as far as handguns they had one just one box in .40 short and weak and a bunch a .410 shells but no other handgun ammo. This dude came up and we started Bsn he was looking for .45 acp too they had none at all. He says that one of the employees told him they get a small shipment every night but I don't understand why they would do that they said they can't order ammo either so what's Walmart doing?

Wal-mart can't specifically order ammo. They have a list of what they stock, which is changed sometimes. If the supplier has the ammo and WM's computers say they need stock, it is sent.

Not true...I used to manage the sporting goods and automotive depts at my local Walmart, and I ordered ammo all the time. Doesn't mean you necessarily get what you order, but I would up the orders based on trends I saw all the time.

The distribution centers would get items all the time that were not part of our regular modulars and ship them to us and we had no control over those, but the stuff that was part of the modular assigned by corporate were able to have the quantities adjusted by the dept manager. I would have regular customers tell me they would buy more of a certain ammo or caliber all the time, and I would order more for them. In fact, I would take customers numbers and call them when it came in, and hold it for 24 hours before putting it on display for sale.

Now, like back in 2008, and 2009, its just whatever comes in be thankful for it.

Wal marts inventory distribution system is far more flexible than most realize. It has always been a key contributor to their success.

What wriggly said.

I checked a couple of area Walmarts and one store out of the three typically had more ammo than the other two combined. The reason why was the in-stock store made the effort to order more, especially calibers the department manager believed to be in greater demand. The other stores didn't really order much of any ammo and received whatever would be alloted to them through the distribution center; that is, if they got any at all.

I also shop at the Richland store location and just breeze thru that section looking. All i see is rifle and shotgun shells.

I don't understand their distribution of firearms and ammo to the stores. The store in the next town over from me has next to nothing, but never really does, then the next town over was stocked with both guns and ammo. I found some 9mm and .223 there. I thought I hit the jackpot. But still no .22 at ANY store I go to.

What I've done is go to different Walmarts in my area first thing in the morning and buy 3boxes of ammo at each of them. I have tried coming back later in the day to buy more ammo but they usually sell out by lunch time.

What you can also do is ask the Sporting goods clerk when they get ammo delivery so you can try to be there when they put the ammo on the shelves.

Do you guys burn up much 'dinosaur juice' going between various Walmarts?

Last week Bullseye gun shop in West Little Rock had a fair bit of numerous ammo types when I walked over Wednesday from the hotel,
i.e. 7.62x39 (only Russian: approx. $9/box), .308, handgun ammo. Three boxes per customer.

Maybe a number of shops in your areas also have this, but then prices could be much higher.

There is no box limit for my local walmart they are usually sold out but I talked with dept manager today and I will find out tomorrow if this guy gave me the low down or a bunch of BS!

I actually found some CCI MiniMags at the Walmart I went to yesterday. They were priced at $7.67 and they had about 15 of the 100 round trays. The only other handgun ammo they had was .40S&W and one or two boxes of .38 Special and .45ACP in the 20 round high end defensive loadings.

Funny thing was with the .22 ammo was that this is typically one of the stores that never orders any extra ammo on their own and it pretty much shows with a near empty display case. They just take whatever they get. A couple of weeks ago all they had were 6 or 7 boxes of Winchester .380 ammo.

I'm with you, but to each their own.

BTW, I just checked my reloading bench and storage cabinet...what ammo crisis? I mean, I'm loading 230g .45ACP for $.137/ea.

I'm experianing the same Walmart invertory issues in Wisconsin. Can only buy 3 at a time. If/when they have anything.

Wallmart had a 22 AR style rifle for $239.00 today, I went to buy it and sme guy beat me to it. They only had 1. She just put it out 5 minutes before. I never heard of the brand, but it was very "cool" looking, almost like an SBR. But had a 10 rounder included. Next time. They are carrying a Nitro Mag shotgun that looks nice for 379.00 "I think", 2nd time it caught my eye, but I recentlly bought a Benneli, so I can't justify it. I think it's 7 rounds, pump.

they had one just one box in .40 short and weak
You guys crack me up! Anybody wanna stand in front of a .40? Didn't think so.

We have become our own worst enemies. Monday morning I watched about 20 people line up outside Sportsman's warehouse in pretty chilly weather and stand around for 30 to 40 minutes waiting for the doors to open. Then they rushed inside like a bunch of coupon crazed black friday shoppers to line up at the customer service counter and wait again so they could buy their ONE BOX allotment. Wow! It took me about 15 minutes to find what I came for and check out. By the time I headed for the door there were about 70 people in line waiting for their one box of ammo.
