Reading some recent reports here of people being able to find ammo at Walmart and how the 'shortage is over'. I took a ride over to Walmart on Houston Road in Florence KY hoping to get a box or two .45 acp.

They had
Seven boxes of .25 auto.
Three boxes of .40
Few boxes of special match .45 acp spec match ammo at $25 a box for 25

That was it for the pistol ammo.

I asked the salesperson when they are getting more in, he said they get trucks in every day usually after 8 - 8:30 pm. And there is no guarantee that any will be on the truck. The guy standing next to me (also looking for ammo) said there are people who take folding chairs from another aisle and wait in line ....sitting in the chairs to wait for the ammo to come in...he said one person fell asleep in the chair!

So I went to Meijer, (regional department and food chain store in the Midwest) also on Houston Road in Florence. And sure enough...no handgun ammo. They have not had handgun ammo since December 2012. Although this time they did have .270, .303 and .243 in the shelves.

I'm surprised that Walmart allows people to take chairs from another aisle and sit waiting in line. I might understand people waiting and sitting in line for a Black Friday sale, but not this. But from what I heard this is a daily thing and I have heard this from more than one person. I think it is rude to the other customers, not to mention a liability to the company with chairs blocking the aisles.

Is the shortage over? Not by any stretch of imagination.

He he, I use to live in Florence, Ky. Your Walmart and Meijer sounds a lot like mine. I have been getting a good amount of evil military grade 00 buck at Meijer, though. You know its military grade since its OD green. ;)

I've been watching / documenting Walmart for some time after having no luck getting 22LR - my results have paid off nicely.
(You can read a little 'bit 'bout my adventures in a closed thread on the subject).

I'm now seeing (assuming this isn't a spike) more frequent deliveries, and larger lots per delivery of 22LR.

I was in a Walmart out of town today - saw a case of Federal 556 62 gr. on the shelf for $447. Dropped by my local Walmart when home tonight, and darn if there aren't TWO of the cases there!
Better hurry - with their 3-box a day limit you can pick up both boxes for the tidy sum of $894 plus tax! :D

I'm seeing a LOT more Winchester M*22, Federal AutoMatch, and while deliveries seem to be spread out on the Winchester 555, our local store got in three cases yesterday - their normal delivery has been one case.

On my spreadsheet I've been building for some time, I show the following deliveries at my local Walmart (some out of town ones I've been following show the same or better results):
Winchester M*22: 7/14, 8/17, 8/29
Federal AutoMatch: 7/19, 7/24, 7/30, 8/13, 8/31
Remington 225: 6/21, 7/31, 8/17, 8/29

This is just a partial showing of what I've been tracking @ around 10 to 15 stores. While some of the deliveries do seem to be accelerating, I've not kept track of how much comes in with each delivery.
I've been able to use my spreadsheet to loosely predict when shipments should be arriving based on historical data.

And ye olde gun shop has also been getting more 22LR in lately, some from folks I've never seen him carry before (picked up my first ARMSCOR brick the other day).

The gun shop has been awash in 223 for about 2 months now - he removed his purchasing limits over 2 months ago and it's starting to pile up!

Fayetteville, TN had 10 boxes of Tula 9mm steel, 10 boxes of 9mm Tula brass. First time I've seen 9mm since before the election.

They also have 6 kinds of .40 cal. They are never out of .40 cal.

Some .357

It is getting better. Slowly.

Jim

I'm seeing plenty of 40S&W, 45ACP, 380, and ( I can't think of what else) sitting on the shelves for quite some time - not getting cleaned out like it was, and most still at a price I'm not willing to pay.

There seems to be a little spike in demand for 9mm in our area?
I've walked away from a lot of 9mm, and now friends are telling me to pick it up for them, so I'm constantly on the prowl for it - particularly the Federal 100-rd. Value Packs, which are under $23 in our neck o' the woods.

Yeh, competition sells that for $5.99 per box and they actually had some in stock. Local Walmart had ZERO BK and slug loads except for stupid .410.
The 'evil grade' BK shot is tungsten-iron-nickel load that comes in lovely copper colored case.

Look, people do not sit in chairs at Walmart waiting for ammo to be rolled out. It's sold to "friends & family" that is why Walmart started putting special warning stickers on some of their ammo boxes.

My Walmart had about 40 boxes of Federal 9mm FMJ this evening. I couldn't believe it.. Unfortunately, all my guns are .45 and .40, and they didn't have any of that....

The poster above is the third different person I have seen report the 1k round cases of Federal American Eagle XM855, $447/1k, available at Walmart.

I'm going to have to check out my Walmarts this weekend.

Not that I could afford that, but...

Guys get fixated on Wally World. Cheap price I guess.

The Cabelas in Hammond Indiana has LOTS of ammo, most all calibers except .22's. Earlier this week I counted over 100k of primers on the shelves. Had over 40k of LR alone. Almost no powder. Thousands of rounds of all types of .223, etc.

Gander Mountain in Merrillville has the ammo shelves stocked full also.

If you happen to be around a bigger city, check out any Bass Pro, Cabelas, Gander Mountain, etc.

My mom went to that exact Cabelas last month to get some 9mm for my dad. She called me to verify the price was good...it was. 350 rounds of CCI Blazer in ~.30 cal dry boxes. She got like 5 of them. Try that at Walmart.

I live in Hancock County (Outside of Owensboro) Kentucky. If you live near here, ammo is plentiful at Whittakers. They have it all: .22lr, .223, .45, 9mm... by box and crates. They will reserve it for you for up to two weeks. Prices are either prepanic or a wee bit more.

Also, check out 2nd amendment in Owensboro. They have ammo. Granted, they will charge you 10 times more than you want to pay, but they have it. Also, check out EJ's Pawn shop, they have everything except .22lr. Don't forget ACES.

If you don't live near here, it's time for a road trip.

Notice I didn't mention Wal-Mart... why would you go there for ammo? That's like going to the gas station to buy dinner. The selection will be limited and the price will be high.

...say what?

Walmart almost always has the best price, on everything. To include ammunition. That's their strategy. They are the price leader.

Cabela's in Louisville is 90 miles away...maybe I need to take a trip down there. I shouldn't have to travel 90 miles to get ammo at an affordable price...but I guess that is the only option other than waiting in line at 8:30 PM with the chair sitters at Wallyworld.

Also, on a related note, what gas station sells expensive food?

I was at a Walmart today. They had a 1000 round box of 5.56 they want to sell with an AR for $450.00. They had some AE 38spl and 40 S&W. They told me that there are people waiting every day at 7:00AM for 22 ammo. That really bugs me....

our Walmart in Fremont MI is starting to get more ammo though the shelves are still scant esp handgun calibers and .22lr. I have plenty of ammo at this time but just for info I asked the guy if they ever get .22lr in. He said that they get shipments every day except wednesday and they sell it from 7:00-7:30am with lines forming at 6am.

I have been buying ammo in WM all week, XM855, WWB .45 and 9mm, 12 ga buck, and .22lr bulk packs. Blew my whole VA disability check this week alone on ammo there.

I picked up 1 box of .25 and 1 box of .40 at the Walmart by me. They had more of the .40, but I didn't want to be greedy.

The Wal-Mart nearest my house has taken to moving the airsoft pistols, BBs, hearing protection, and other random stuff into the ammo case so that the shelf doesn't look so empty. I got a good laugh out of that.

Walmart in Stafford, VA had about 12 boxes of .380, 14 boxes of .40, plus 10-12 boxes of .223 plus some Tula 7.62x39 ... all in a glass case separate from their normal ammo shelves. First time I've seen that much in a while!

Yeh, I compared some prices on certain items. They are a price leader in mind of their management. When I go to Walmart I buy only few select items.

Lots of everything here except .22lr ammo. Oddly .45 ACP has been in shorter supply than usual; two months ago they had tens of thousands of rounds of it. Lots of 9mm, albeit a closer to $.30/round than $.20/round like a couple years ago. Tons of .40 ammo. They had many many cases of 5.56 and lots of .223 as well.

The only thing I can't buy a lot of is .22lr, but I find it often enough to stay ahead of what I'm shooting.
