THE CHAIR IS AGAINST THE WALL
Silencerco, a company out of Utah, has gone live with a new website designed to act as an introduction to the legal ownership of silencers. Most of the information there is old hat to those who've already gone through the process to acquire a can, but for people who are only vaguely aware that there is a process for acquiring a sound suppressor, or who are completely ignorant of the fact that they can be legally owned. It gives a brief overview of the advantages to having a suppressor, as well as the process for acquiring them, and arguments for why they're a good thing to have.

As a piece of outreach meant for the uninitiated, I thought this was a pretty good effort.

Check out the website here:

A tip of the hat to the guys at ITS Tactical, where I first saw this posted.

WELL!!!! Thank you Justin for the referance site. How cornie of me to think, hey maybe here. Hah Hah right there in RED letters EVERYWHERE EXCEPT ILLINOIS. I'd pay my fair share for a fence around Cook Co..

Very neat! That may help keep some threads on the topic from going several pages with information, misinformation, arguments, name calling, and closing!

Im currently in Louisiana, and I would help pay for that fence. That city is a black spot upon this whole nation.

I think I'm in. Instead of another firearm, it makes sense to have one that won't blow out your ear drums if you have a perp in the house, and have to shoot. It doesn't matter what caliber you use, they can all give you permanent hearring damage. And anyone who ever had an hearing problem, knows how it can frusturate you to no end.

I'm curious about the Firearms Trust and the pros and cons. Anybody got more info. Recently I have heard that larger diameter bores can be used with very little lost efficiency on smaller calibers, is this also true?

I have used 9mm on a 22lr and 7.62 nagant, works fine. A 338 works well on a 308 and a 308 silencer works well for the 5.56.

Erm...I thought they were called supressors? Silencers is not the accurate term (they don't silence actually, they only supress).

Waiting on the ATF approval now, when it gets back I'll be picking up one of Silencerco's .22 cans.
Been to their operation, people there seem to know their stuff. (Aside from Arkansas. :) )

The words silencer and muffler are the politically (legal) correct terms. Suppressor is the technicallly correct term. When I use the word silencer in my everyday speech, people listening to me know I am talking about a gun muffler. The word silencer rolls off of my tongue better too. :)

(24) The terms "firearm silencer" and "firearm muffler" mean any device for silencing, muffling, or diminishing the report of a portable firearm,.....

yes they are legal... except in Delaware lol

which unfortunatly is where I live
I have never understood why they are illegal here but the only NFA item that is not completely banned is an SBR

anyone have any ideas how to change that?

I assume that you mean other than moving to a more gun friendly state?

You might look under THR heading of activism.

Here is how you do it.

1. Talk to your Senator (not a letter or e-mail) Convince him or her that silencers are legal to own; there is a good chance they think they are not. Tell them how they make firearms more pleasant and safer to use and that criminals rarely use them.

2. Get all of your friends to do the same thing. This may be the most difficult part. I got more flak from gun owners when trying to ease restrictions on silencer use than from anyone else. It was really sad how often my fellow gun owners called me a criminal for wanting to use a legal silencer.

3. Write up a bill to amend the law and convince your Senator to submit it. Be prepared to watch it die in committee for a few years before it gets a hearing and is sent to the floor for a vote.

This is how it was done in Washington State. PM me if you need more details.
