New Website: Silencers Are Legal

The words silencer and muffler are the politically (legal) correct terms. Suppressor is the technicallly correct term. When I use the word silencer in my everyday speech, people listening to me know I am talking about a gun muffler. The word silencer rolls off of my tongue better too. :)

I prefer suppressor since "silencer" conjures up Hollywood images of assassins in most people's minds, and it doesn't really silence anything. However, most people are more familiar with the word silencer. Even gun folks. I once asked a dealer "I see you are listed as a YHM dealer, can you get suppressors?"
"Sure I can get the YHM suppressors. I have a couple phantoms in stock now, they run about $45" He thought I was talking about flash suppressors.

They don't 'silence' a .45 all that well...

A .22 is a different story.

It depends on what kind of 45 you are talking about. A typical can on a 45 ACP pistol, not so great, an Osprey on a 45 acp pistol is impressive. My 45 AR-15 (458 socom) is still rather loud.

My 45 acp Enfield with my long 18" 50 cal can did very well. enfield.jpg

A subsonic 22 lr in a rifle is very impressive when suppressed. Any 22lr pistol is still loud even when equipped with a good silencer.
