New York mayor to NY CCWers

I just want to add a bit of good news from NY. The judge who is likely to be elected in the area where I live (she is leading in the polls) wants to do away with the restricted carry permits, home owner /sportsman and work carry, and make them all full concealed carry permits! She has this strange idea that is quite foreign here that ANY law abiding citizen should be able to defend themselves. Now that still would not allow you to carry in the five boroughs of NYC, but it would cover the rest of the state. I’ll let you know if it happens.

I guess I just don't get the logic of it. How many of the folks with CCW permits committed crimes involving guns in NYC? It just seems like meaningless political grandstanding. It's sad commentary on our society that anyone would buy it.

+1 for the Prof. Wick...

Wick:

That sounds about right. Fact is, I heard it on the History channel nearly a year back. I couldn't recall the name of the legislation. Strange, is it not, the politicians would take arms from those born in America to keep them out of the hands of criminal immigrants? It almost makes me think of the Mexico border problem. Thanks for the clarification.

That reminds me of something I read somewhere but I can't remember where (isn't that always the way it is). There have actually been cases where the NYPD denied the carry permit, the applicant won the appeal in court, and the NYPD still defied the judge's order to issue the permit. That's what they're dealing with in NYC.

The saddest thing about this whole situation is that the people of this country allowed our rights to be infringed upon by politicians. If there was a strong enough opposition to begin with then NYC/SOCAL wouldn't be the way they are today. I am doing everything I can to oppose any new gun laws because I don't want to become a criminal because of someone else's pen stroke. :fire:

I think there should be a "Bodyguard-Free Week" in NYC. Where for one week of the year, every NY politician has to go unarmed and sans bodyguards on public transit right in the heart of downtown. Then, maybe these schmucks will think about relenting and letting NYCers CCW.

I was born and raised in NYC and left at 23 when I entered the military. Most New Yorkers are totally unfamiliar with guns, frightened of them, and undoubtedly agree with the mayor in thinking that tougher and tougher gun laws are the answer to deal with armed criminals. I still have many relatives in NYC, and they ALL think I am some type of gun nut because I own several handguns, am a member of the NRA, and believe the 2nd Amendment means what it says. When I ask them why NYC still has so much gun crime, despite the laws, they respond that its because other states are too lenient and that those guns find their way to criminals in NYC. Why should we be surprised at this ignorance? Clearly the entire population of England and Australia, other than a handful of weirdos, think the same way. Even here in Illinois (not Chicago) most of my co-workers and aquaintances think I am strange to support the ownership, let alone the carrying of a firearm. Ironically I have two daughters who are neutral on this issue, and actually didn't mind when I gave a handgun to each of their husbands, but my two grown sons (one a former LEO) both are strongly anti-gun and think their Dad is a bit crazy.

mzmtg,

So when was that operation that removed your humerus bone? Did it hurt?

Yes, that little red dot on the wall was the point. I just flew over your head and made a big dent in the plaster. :neener: :neener:

mzmtg,

Bloomberg ran as a Democrat for years, but when he wanted to run for NYC Mayor, the Democratic party supported another candidate. Bloomberg switched parties in order to run. Since the Republicans didn't have a candidate with a chance of winning, they backed Bloomberg. After winning office, Bloomberg reverted to his core beliefs.

I'm not sure if that counts as being a Republican or not.

Sincerely,

My letter to Bloomberg

Dear Mr. Bloomberg,
Do you include your armed bodyguards among those "gun holders" you want to reduce/disarm in the city of New York? How about the few rich and famous with carry permits? Trump, Stern, other rich and famous? Why is it a requirement to carry a lot of money in order to justify a handgun carry permit? How are those people's lives more valuable than mine? Do you not realize gun control creates victims and emboldens criminal? Surely you are smarter than that.

Respectfully,
MV
former NYC resident

just sent using NYC site, wonder if he will respond

you should all do the same!

Bloomberg is a prime example of why we shouldn't vote for Democrats next week.

If we let the Democrats take over Congress, they will take our guns away!!!
As you well know, the same is true for RINOs (a jackass in elephant's clothing).

The city should slash the number of people who are allowed to carry concealed weapons, Mayor Bloomberg said yesterday.

Maybe they should slash the # who aren't allowed to carry them, lock em' up.

As for that hypocrite, I am sure he will be on the list of those citizens who should be protected. Or does his police escort not carry them. This article should start "Only the wealthy & important should be have the privilege of defending one's life, Mayor Bloomberg said yesterday". Let him walk into the 100's, I'm sure hardly anyone there is allowed to carry a concealed weapon, he should be very safe.

Last night on the BBC I heard an interview with someone who claimed that the strict gun control laws in NY were responsible for the drop in crime in the city, and that crime rates fell more in NYC than in other cities with less stringent gun control. Of course, the BBC reporter never questioned the statements. Listeners might well believe that gun control, i.e., keeping guns out of the hands of non-criminals is how to make our streets safe again.

I lived in NYC for a bit over 10 years, just recently moved to AL. wow I didn't know what free country is until I moved out of NYC! crimes are way less here, people are much more relaxed. I know alot of people that is packing heat, but do they go and shoot people?

bloom is so full of it since he have the rich and his bodyguards ccw... a citywide gun-free day will show him how gun control only go against law abiding people not thugs.

Bloomie was a Democrat for years until he switched parties to run for mayor.

How much time do Don Imus and Robert Deniro spend in NYC?

Do they live there?

isn't good enough for this one. We need a projectile vomit smiley!

You mean like this?
