I actually agree with most of what Willie says regarding the Scout rifle, and enjoy hearing about his experiences with that and his adventures on the water with his AK... but he is way off base when he insists that there is no benefit to chrome lining, and assumes that everybody who wants a Kalashnikov wants it for "sporting purposes only" and not for any serious use.

FYI, I don't make a regular habit of getting into gunfights either, but keeping the rationale behind the 2A in mind, I like to be able to rely that if I had to give my rifle a heavy round count under some not-so-great conditions and wasn't always able to clean it and scrub the chamber, that I could rely on it to perform. Hence I pay a lot of attention to things like materials and testing for my defensive and 2A purpose firearms.

Willie, don't you know that you are wasting your time trying to use logic on True Believers?

They will never admit that they have bought into a fallacy because they have too much emotionally and financially invested in what they believe. Just like trying to point out to a liberal the non-logic of their philosophy, you will never win this argument.

You are right in saying that these rifles that we get here are nothing more than neutered versions of the originals. The fact that the Yugoslavian manufactured rifles fought a couple of wars without them feeling the need to chrome line the barrels seems to escape the True Believers completely. Logic and empirical evidence isn't going to sway their minds.

However it does make the tacticool mall ninjas think of themselves as high-speed, low-drag operators.

I do like it though, how much the old M70 offends the pristine rifle guys.
