They are fun to watch. You can tell mommy Deer looks after the small one..the closest I've been about 50 feet, mommy Deer not so sure..

They visit all the time. They're safe from me. BUT my property extends a lot farther back than that so Opening Day I'm a good five hundred yards back and it's Venison time.

When I "zoom up", you picture becomes so pixelated I can't see anything. I'm guessing it's two deer eating at a feeder. If that's correct, than what we are really seeing is another generation of deer learning that food comes from a feeder in close proximity to humans and not that it grows in the woods. Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing you, everyone does it, cause it's fun to watch the deer. As I mentioned in another thread here lately, it's just the "urbanization" of our deer herd. I have lived in my present home for over 40 years. When I first moved in it was an old farm house, amidst large parcels of Ag land on the outskirts of a small mid-western town. We always had deer in the area around us and I used to bow hunt the small woodlot across the road that was between a 80 acre field and the railroad tracks. While I regularly saw deer in the field, never once did we have have a deer in the backyard. Large swamp to the south of another large Ag field on the other side of us, was similar. Over those 40 years the small town has grown and now we are surrounded by sub-divisions. The fields and the small woodlot are gone. In their place are soccer fields and houses. Deer in the backyard are now a common sight. I see them in broad daylight feeding on the apple tress that have always been in our backyard. Come rut there will be scrapes underneath them. Every night the bird feeders are emptied by the deer to get the sunflower seeds out of the mix. Deer are being hit by cars crossing the road I used to have to cross to get to them. Never had deer hit there when it was rural, now it's common, even tho traffic hasn't really increased, speed limit has been drastically reduced, and overall deer numbers have not increased in the area. The difference is deer now identifying human habitat with food, as opposed to wild/Ag habitat with food. Add in the "safe sanctuary" of being in a urban area that does not allow them to be hunted and I understand completely why they are here........in my backyard. While it's nice to watch them, they have almost got to the point of being destructive pests.

Caught this guy early this evening on the edge of the woods. He's in our yard but the woods is state land and can be bow hunted.

Ours come in between 1:00 and 3:00 am and like to act like they own the place. This is out my kitchen window at 2:00 am one morning while I was up roaming around. They walk down the grass isle way between my house and the neighbors property and out on to the road and down the road like they own it.
Then they make a right on Forest Road and walk down it like they own that area.
I guess at that time of the morning they do own the place.

I'm convinced that deer are becoming more nocturnal than they were 15-20 years ago. That buck in my last post was also 20 ft. from one of the trail cams on the edge of those woods. My night time trail cam deer pix outnumber the day time shots by at least 3 to 1, and almost all daylight shots are just after sunrise or just before sunset. I wonder if they are adapting to years of hunting pressure?

There were two sentrys and two of them were actually laying down in my yard. They must feel quite at home there.

Have a group of three that hang out in the area. See them on the security cameras all times of the day. They sometime bed down in the trees out back of the house.

My neighbors are trying to limit my hunting opportunities. I don’t have much room, but the back edge of my property is loaded up with turkeys and an occasional deer. Neighbors feed them and think that they own them. I have a bow and know how to be very quiet. My back yard also has a gate leading over to the woods… I’m much less worried about a deer than I am a turkey. This fat boy likes to eat grilled chunks that are wrapped in bacon and have a pepperocini half in the middle. Grill it til the bacon is crispy…
