I have the itch to add a 45acp to my collection.
I currently have a XDM Compact 3.8 in 45acp. This pistol is my favorite semiautomatic of the seven pistols I own. But it is the only 45acp I currently have.
Now of course I have a budget and the more I spend on a new firearm the less firearms I can buy.

Please vote for one of the options.
Thanks for your thoughts and comments in advance.

Of those choices I think the Springfield with the caveat that it has a beavertail grip safety; the web of my hand won't let me vote for a 1911 lacking that feature.

My new policy is that I am always going to look at buying the highest quality -- meaning usually, the most expensive -- firearm I can afford at any given time (even if it means having to wait a couple extra months to buy another).

Do you want a range pistol, carry pistol, or both? I'm tending to hedge my bets on the possibility of ever more draconian firearms laws, so I'm buying dual purpose guns now (carry-range, hunting-range, HD-range), no more strictly "range toys".

I'd go with the Springfield Loaded, as I've always thought it was a great all-purpose 1911 (just wish it came with checkered frontstrap), but that's just me.

I did pick up one of these not long ago (my first Tisas, Stingray Carry, stock photo):

Then I would get something different than what I already have and like . I donā€™t really like any of the ones on your list , but Tisas without a specific model , I could find one that I might like at a good price .

With me it depends on just what the item is.

In 1911 area some of the "cheapies" are getting darn good reviews. It would be hard for me to justify the extra money for a range toy. Even for games. I played a few different pistol games with a box stock Remington 1911.

Hence why I picked up a Tisas (and I have all the higher-end 1911s I'll ever need anyway). I'm gonna wring it out and see if it's worthy of being a carry pistol; initial reports from a lot of credible guys indicate that it is a pretty good pistol.

Tisas' 1911s are the new darling of the 1911 forums and its 1911s have quite the following. I may go ahead and pick up a Ranger as well; it looks like a darn good clone of Colt's M-45.

Good to note that (currently) the membership concurs with me about the SA Loaded being a good choice.

If you want a Classic! Colt 45 1911.. couple of xtra hundred but it says ā€œColtā€ on the gun

If you feel like tinkeringā€¦ T-Sauce SDS ! SOLID $300~ gun

Tisas restored my faith in the 1911 platform after horrible experiences with an 80 Series Colt and a Dan Wesson Pointman/Patriot semi-custom.

So far I've purchased four Tisas 1911s (and a couple other Tisas pistols) and all have simply worked flawlessly from the first round and now through several thousand rounds. They are simply boringly reliable and accurate. Doesn't hurt that they also punch way way above their weight class.

I owned one. For a few weeks. Two range sessions before I got rid of it. It was NOT fun at all to shoot.

If you plan on buying the XDs, rent/borrow one and shoot several mags of 180-gr plus-Ps and 230 gr FMJ through it first, then get back to us:evil:
I had a XDS 45 in the first version. I kinda regret selling it.

I like my XDS45 a lot. I liked my Tisas 1911 a lot.

The XD series is dirt cheap on the used market right now. Mine had barely been fired and I paid a little less than $310 OTD a couple of months ago. For me the recoil is easy. Different strokes for different folks.

I liked my Tisas 1911 and I've liked my RIA's. I shoot them a LOT. You don't have to pay a lot for a 1911 that's reliable and easy to shoot. Get bigger sights. The little GI style are hard to use, especially as you get older.

For carry, the XD45. For HD or range toy, the Tisas.

Both good pistols that don't cost much.

For the money, I donā€™t think you can beat a Tisas 1911 - especially as an entry pistol. Donā€™t let the low price fool you - it is a very solid pistol. Fit and finish are at least as good (if not better) than a Springfield.

Unless you want a ā€œprojectā€ gun, skip their GI model and get one with dovetailed sights and some of the upgrades, like the Tisas Duty Itā€™s still a great bargain.

Hereā€™s my Tisas GI after I ā€œtinkeredā€ with itā€¦

Of your choices, I picked the Springfield. I did not pick the Kimber... although I have 3 of them, and they are excellent pistols. I just think the Rapide is just... ugly. Sorry. Now, if you are talking a Custom II, or something similar... then Kimber.

I would never, ever, buy a Taurus again. I had 2 of their PT1911's, they were both junk. One shot so far left I couldn't correct for it, and the other had an improperly heat treated slide that started to peen.

The Tisas is a wild card. They look good on paper, the price is right, but I have no direct experience with them.

As @Old Dog mentioned the XDS is a little hand hammer, @Tallball mentioned it is a neat little firearm though.
I should have left it off this list as it is really different than the rest of options. I will probably add one someday if I find one for the right price.

I should have mentioned that the pistol must have a ambidextrous safety. A ambidextrous or right side magazine release is a definite plus. I don't think anyone offers a right & left side slide release on the 1911 platform?
That is the plus for the TH45 as it does have all 3 controls ambidextrous
