I've also been looking at Uberti .45 SA's. I have a cheap SA .22 revolver which I love but would still like a full size replica of the original Peacemaker in the appropriate caliber.
I prefer the Pietta SAA clones because they have the four click Colt type actions. I just bought one a few months ago. I have the Cimarron Frontier 7 1/2" in .45 Colt.

So I'd like to hear arguments or thoughts, on the .45 or .357 combo if I go SA/lever action first, which is what I'm leaning towards at the moment.

Several folks have mentioned getting both and I'm wondering what would be better, or is it just personal preference? I haven't had to price either as of yet so that's something to consider.

For those still wondering I'm talking about either a .45 Colt SA pistol with a lever action in the same cartridge or a .357 in the same scenario.

I have a Ruger Vaquero and Rossi 92 in .357 and love them both. I wish the Rossi had a 20 inch barrel rather than 16 but the price was right.

I have a Marlin bolt action rifle in 17HMR, with a scope. You can't go wrong with a 17HMR rifle, it's great for small game. Very accurate round, cheap to buy as well. If you enjoy shooting and want something besides a 22LR, I'd get a 17HMR rifle, JMHO...

revolvers and levers are meant to be together but just like with wine and cheese there are a myriad of ways to pair them up...
IMO the toughest, utilitarian combo would be a ruger revolver with a marlin carbine; simple, proven mechanics and built tough.
next up would be the S&W/Winchester combo... excelent quality, geared towards those who appreciate the craftsmanship and artistry in their guns.
then there's taurus/rossi combo; for those who have no pride at all and just want to check that category off their list.
last classic pair would be two uberti replicas... for those who are in it purely for nostalgia.

cailber wise it really makes no difference (you stated in your OP that you have no use for these guns so ballistics/energy is irrelevant.) just so long as you can source ammo and enjoy shooting it. personally i like .357.

i would also put in a word for any marlin or winchester 30/30.. they are classics, dependable and can easily be found used for half the price of the pistol caliber variants and often have smoother actions to boot...$300 price difference can set you up with enough ammo to last a while.

Bluejeans says it rather well above. I am of the "no substitute for cubic inches" philosophy when it comes to revolvers, and like to shoot Black Powder cartridges, so it's 45 Colt for me. I have 4 single action revolvers and two lever guns thus chambered. But, I can't imagine the circumstances in which I would be without a 30-30 lever gun.

So a 357 revolver and a 30-30 lever gun would also work. As mentioned above, a little patience will get you a Marlin made Western Field, or Glenfield or a Winchester made JC Higgins in 30-30 for under $350, leaving you more to spend on a revolver. A pistol caliber Marlin or Winchester is a $600 - $800 proposition, though the Rossi R92 can be had for less.

Hard choices. Fun considering them !

DA/SA 357 Ruger GP 100 4", 5" or 6 would be a good choice IMO. I like .357 because I can shoot 38 special cheap at the range and a few .357 when I feel like it. Remington UMC FMJ 130 grain 250 pack/$68/<$14 per 50 rounds. It's very easy to install a lighter mainspring if you feel the need (although I didn't) and the front plain black ramp sight can be changed in less than 30 seconds. Around here a new 4" blued GP 100 .357 runs about $630 and a stainless 5" about $730. I've had mine for four years and the triggers have smoothed up nicely with use. For more $$ you couldn't go wrong with a Smith 586 either. I prefer the balance of the 4" or 5" over the 6" which feels muzzle heavy to me with the full lug.

The combo in 45 would be pretty cool for deer hunting. Hard to beat 357/38 for economy if you want to shoot a lot of paper.

Decisions decisions..... :)

I kinda of feel, much like the 1911 was originally a .45ACP, that a SA Peacemaker should be in 45LC.

I should note that as far as lever actions go, I've shot a 30-30, .44 (not sure if it was a special or magnum) and .45LC, out of the three I liked the .45 the most.

Then you should go with what you like...

I dont have a use for any of these, just to throw that out there.

I've been eyeing a Savage 93 in .17HMR. Walmart has them for $199 which is making me think why shouldn't I buy this. I really have grown to like the .17 after shooting a couple that my buddy has.

I've also been looking at Uberti .45 SA's. I have a cheap SA .22 revolver which I love but would still like a full size replica of the original Peacemaker in the appropriate caliber.

I've also been looking at DA/SA revolvers. I wouldnt to want to spend a ton but I'm not interested in a Taurus or Chiapa. I'm thinking more S&W or Ruger. But I have no idea what I should be looking for. I wouldnt want a huge caliber, just a nice medium sized caliber to represent the gun. .357 or .44 on the top end.

Last but not least is a lever action of some sort. I literally know almost nothing about these and wouldnt want to spend a ton. Caliber would be pretty open but I dont want a 45-70 on the high end.

All opinions are welcome....

I bought a Savage model 93 in .22 magnum. It's a really nice gun for the money.

I don't have much use for the .17, but if you do its hard to say no to that price!

I've been considering a Ruger Blackhawk in .45LC. Not quite the same thing, but I can understand the appeal.

For general utility and cost, I'd go with the .357 and its hard to go wrong with a S&W 586 or 686 (depending on if you prefer blued of SS) or a Ruger GP100. Both are great guns that will last more than one lifetime with proper care. If you are more interested in handgun hunting deer or similar sized game (or just want a cartridge that starts with a "4"!), a S&W 629 is the way I'd go, mainly because I don't care for the look of the Ruger Redhawk.

A Rossi M92 in .357 would probably be my first choice for an inexpensive lever action. Lots of other options if you are willing to pay more.
