There is a new Sheriff in town (litterally), and his policy seems to be no sign-off on NFA applications. So, I have setup the appropriate trust, and I've filed my first ever, non-individual Form 1. My question is this...

When I get my tax stamp back, what info do I need to have engraved on the gun? When I did my individual SBS, I had my name and address engraved on the magazine tube, but how do things differ if I'm using a trust?

If it makes a difference, I specified that I would be adding "additional data appearing on the firearm" (the name of my trust).

So do I still need to put my address, etc on it somewhere?

The name, city and state (or recognized abbreviations thereof) of your trust.

It needs to go on the frame, receiver, or barrel.

27 CFR 479.102

The serial number is on the receiver, and since the magazine tube is soldered in place, I was told that it would be okay on there. It seems to get checked every other time I go to the range and nobody has ever said anything, but maybe I should see about getting it re-engraved just to be on the safe side.

By the way, after it's all done I would write a polite letter to the sheriff explaining how the system works, and how his refusal has done nothing except remove him from the loop of information.

If he'd sign he would know when citizens bought these weapons. Now he knows nothing.

Might be interesting to let him know that.

My local police chief signs so I don't have that problem, but his policy is to have a face to face with everyone that requests and he told me flat out the if he didn't sign someone else would, or find another way around it and he would rather sign than lose that information and be involved.

Who is checking that? I have had NFA weapons since the early 80's and I think I've been asked for the paper work twice, maybe 3 times in all those years.

I wouldn't. Unless you like beating your chest.
