right at dusk yesterday evening I had about 7 does and yearlings in my shooting lane and picked out a big doe from the bunch, she was quartering towards me and I shot her just in front of her right shoulder with the 6.5 Grendel 115 gr Barnes TX, she hit the ground then came up running with the rest it was dark enough that I couldn't find a blood trail so I tracked her down earlier this morning very tiny blood trail but I saw the impact in my scope and knew it was a solid hit. found her about 85 -90 yards from where I shot her, wore my old butt out dragging her back to the road this morning out of the pine thicket she ran into,.
the Barnes TX 6.5Grendel had a full pass through after traveling almost 20" diagonally through her, she will be a nice pile of meat in the freezer 20231221_100221.jpg 20231221_100607.jpg 20231221_100927.jpg IMG-20231221-WA0000.jpeg

Very nice!

The cover doesn't look very thick there. Did you see which way she ran off? Surprised you didn't see her that night.

I just had a general ideal of where she went and it was pitch black in those pines, without being able to find blood last night i missed her, I walked within 20 feet of her and just didn't see her in the dark, took me about 10 minutes to find a few specks of blood where she crossed the road this morning and about another 10 to track down where she was

Amazing how dark it can get quickly this time of year.

The two I got earlier this month went down in a place without trees but with waist to shoulder high grass. I knew about where they went down, but it still took me 45 minutes of slow, methodical searching to find both.

Everything looks different after dark and I’ve walked in circles around a dead animal in broad daylight without seeing it. Great work! Looks tasty

Which Barnes bullet were you shooting? Was it the TAC-TX? Which vitals did you hit? 85-90 yards is a fair ways. I used to shoot the TSX and had a number of deer run a good distance (not quite half of the ten deer I shot with it). I've been shooting the TTSX and every deer I've shot has been DRT.

115 gr TAC-TX

I like taking the 1 or 2 year old does that way it doesn't take out the good experienced mothers & I'm not killing the best bucks. I took my doe this season as she ran under my tree stand. She was so close my scope wouldn't focus that close. I tried for a head shot but got her in the neck right behind the skull. I got about #45 of good freezer meat out of her. I was shooting Winchester 180gr SP in a 350 Legend AR.

I took a 10 point last year with the 350L loaded with Hornady American Whitetail 170gr interlock, excellent results with it
