Came across this helmet for a decent price. Anyone know what type of mount this is? I'm assuming it is for night vision but not sure if there is a difference in mounts when going between Gen1, 2, 3. Not sure if it would be better to choose the helmet after choosing which NV setup. All I know is that I'm going to go with a monocular helmet setup that's about it. Any info would be appreciated.

I was never a fan of the standard issue mount plate, like the one you pictured. One of my units issued a different one that was flatter to the helmet and more stable when mounting night vision. I had to get authorization with each unit I transferred into to wear the different mount but it was worth it. I particularly like there is a loop in this mount that makes it much easier to dummy cord your night vision to your helmet. As the mounts and plates don't lock firmly into place every time, especially when they get older.

That one will do the job with a rhino mount. The newer ones that are triangular and have 3 holes are better. I use a light weight pro-tech skateboard helmet for night predator hunting.

Does that helmet have holes for the triangular mount from the factory? Is the rhino mount what you use with it?

Pro-tec military helmets can be ordered pre-drilled for the mount (+$2). I use the standard army rhino mount, which will work with PVS-14, PVS-7, or PVS-15. The rhinos are standard issue and very available. The Wilcox mounts are better, but spendy- they also work with the triangular mount. I don't know who makes the triangular mounts- my unit replaced all of the older mounts like in your picture with the triangular mounts over 12 years ago. As far as night vision, I recommend a mil-spec PVS-14 for flexibility and general quality. There are cheaper units out there that are junk. The expression "you get what you pay for" is 100% true when discussing night vision.

The triangular mounts will still work with one hole in the center. They just won't be as stable as using 3 screws but I never noticed a difference. The triangular mounts wrap around the helmet better so they don't snag on things as easily.

The VAS mounts won’t work with one screw...unless you like your nods flying around on your face.
From team Wendy or more commonly opscore they usually will preinstall them for you. If not a drill works. And of course the weakest part of the whole setup is that stupid plastic arm that always breaks so, that’s why with fast helmets/mich helmets it’s best to use bungies to keep your nods centered and from bounce.

Back before bump helmets were a thing and we used the protects, dudes use to drill and install their mounts themselves. The opscore bump helmets have a plastic inlet for the rhino.
Yes they break.

Never used VAS. I liked the triangular mounts when I had time to set them up. I could borrow a drill from the mechanics that would go through kevlar easily and put 4 screws through my mount. That guy wasn't going anywhere. But If I got tossed a helmet with the standard one hole, and an hour to setup my whole kit, I could still do it without much issue.
