A local gun shop once had one of those on consignment.
They let me take some photos of it at the time, but I can't locate the post.
It's a beautiful piece.
Did you purchase it at an auction or from a private seller?

Thinking back, IIRC the gun that I saw looked like it had tarnish on some of the engraved areas that might indicate that it was silver plated maybe?
Do you think that it is?

It's silver. I paid too much from an auctinon: but it fits in my 2nd gen collection very well.

Stunning...absolutely stunning! Very tastefully done with the engraving and the gold and silver plating. The carved ivory stocks go perfectly with the rest of the gun.
 
Personally, I am still looking for a pair of 1861s with holly stocks. That is, if you know of anyone selling such a pair.
