(NJ) Governor candidate Seth Grossman supports 2A...

What would a pro-gun governor be able to accomplish in NJ? Make it harder to pass anti-gun legislation and appoint a like-minded attorney general. However, I don't think he can’t remove law(s) from the books by executive order and he may have his veto on an anti-gun bill overridden. Then you have the mayors or cities like Newark, Atlantic City and Camden who are members of the Mayors Against Illegal Guns (aka MAIG) bunch. They’ll be a constant thorn in his side. As a matter of fact after looking at NJ’s enrollment in MAIG, there were plenty of shameful names and faces for such a geographically small state.

He has my attention, I'm checking up on what I can find about him. If Christie signs the new laws our state is even farther gone than the rest of the gun-owning country already thinks it is. 5 more months till the wedding and our exit stage right....

Yeahhhh, he sounds pretty good so far :scrutiny:. But Christie did at first too. Or so it seemed. All the stuff about 'law abiding, mentally competent...' sounds like 'common sense' and 'reasonable'. But that can be read many ways. I believe NJ has Mental competence tests right now don't they? Or soon maybe? I forget. Politician parse their words very carefully to give them as much wiggle room as possible.

My litmus test is this:

Ask them where they stand on so called 'assault weapons'. If they start down that road of 'weapons of war don't belong on the streets blah blah baaa baaa' then they've lost me because they are either ignorant, or suffer from denial of reality. Christie sounded good until he started losing his mind on that topic, and then his 'anti' floodgates opened.

Sounds good so far, but bears more watching.

While Mr Grossman might make a great governor he has as much chance as I have of winning. First of all he only has a little over $4500 in his war chest. A lot of people in NJ spend more to get elected to a a school board. If you run in NJ as a pro 2A candidate, you will lose. Someone (Bret Schundler?) tried that a few years ago and the Democrats crucified him. He wanted to make NJ a shall issue state. His opposition played it up buying radio ads claiming he was for "hidden handguns".

Christie pretty much has a second term unless he screws up bad. While he hasn't done anything against 2A rights he hasn't done anything for them either. However, he needs to something pro 2A if he wants to look at living on Pennsylvania Avenue in DC in the future. He will have his chance if the current post Sandy Hook legislation gets in front of him. These all are restrictions to restrict the current restrictions in NJ gun laws. He can veto them on the basis of the costs they will incur. This will satisfy a lot of people because when it gets down to it most Democrats don't like paying more taxes either. Christie can also wave this as a pro 2A item in case he runs for the White House.
