NM governor "suspends" open & concealed carry of firearms in Albuquerque

New Mexico governor issues order suspending the right to carry firearms in public across Albuquerque.​

Due to a "spate of gun violence."

(Presumably committed by criminals, often against other criminals, but also presumably not because legal gun-carriers are contributing to this epidemic of gun violence in Albuquerque.

I was out and about in Albuquerque tonight. I gave the Governor's "public health order" the respect it deserves.

Here is the kicker: What LEO is going to want to enforce this? 1) this order is blatantly a violation of both the US and NM Constitutions, and 2) this same Governor signed away qualified immunity in 2021. Now, LEO's can be personally sued for violating civil rights. I can promise you that if I am accosted, arrested, or charged due to this "public health order" that I am bringing a civil rights suit, and personally suing each and every public official who participates.

Medina has already said he will nor enforce it. Allen stated he's really uneasy about the Constitutional legality so I doubt he will enforce it and State Police just don't have the manpower. This sounds more like political posturing on Grisham's part.

She's not stupid and knows this will do nothing more than cause a very loud s___ storm. Besides, this is her second term, she's out after this, at least though the next governor's term then she can run again. She can pretty much do things like this and not worry too much about the political repercussions.

This one actually looks set up on a "T" for the SAF, GOA, and NRA-ILA. It is so egregious, and is such a violation of "Bruen" under the guise of a "public health order", that prevailing against it will kill several birds with one stone. You shouldn't even need Bruen. Article 6 should be a slam dunk. All it takes is request for court injunction.

I would suggest that NM citizens get a "Katrina Law" in place prohibiting the state from temporary suspension of citizens' RKBA in declared emergencies to prevent stunts like this in the future.

Everybody, stop the chest beating. She's in her last term and knows this is unenforceable so it's pure political posturing. The city and county officials plus law enforcement are NOT backing her and the State Police don't really have the time to do this, they have their regular duties.
She's doing this for a reason but exactly what the reason is we're not sure. Like I've said before she's not stupid, she's an old political campaigner, I really think its smoke and mirrors to distract us. But from what..........?

Good point, politicians never do anything unless they are pandering for votes or enriching themselves. Since shes a lame duck, there must be a monetary motive somehow. Perhaps an Everytown donation to her "Foundation" or something......

That may be the law, but it isn't going to matter. It is a temporary suspension, she's term limited and leaving office, no one is going to charge her.

Out of touch me hadn't seen her latest stupidity until now. I know what our sheriff would tell her about this if it was state wide because she doesn't have power to do it. He has already told her to go pound sand a few times before. One instance led to her taking her demand all the way to the state supreme court to get her way where her hands were slapped in favor of him. This will be his last term as he is term limited just as she is. I hope the next one is as good as he has been. I see more taxpayer funds buying wasted on the court battle this is going to cause due to her ego.

Her Majesty is roundly despised down here in "Little Texas' country. She isn't the only state official that has tried to do what the state constitution doesn't allow. So far each has been shown the error of their ways by our supreme court.
