NM governor "suspends" open & concealed carry of firearms in Albuquerque

This is a test to see how many real Americans who believe in freedom will demonstrate against this. It is up to the citizens of New Mexico to show this governor that she has no authority to engage in this blatant violation of her oath of office. I must note that she seems to think this oath is somehow also suspended by her declaration of an emergency. This is a dangerous precedent

NMSP is going to roll over for her and do her bidding. Fortunately, there aren't many of them, and they are already tied up providing security at the State Fair.
Earlier this year, I drove across most of the entire state and did not see one trooper. Fact is, I didn't even notice an LE presence in Logan or Alamogordo (overnighted there), our two stops. BTW. the sands really are white...

Was heartened when this sign appeared:

Seriously though, I wouldn't be surprised if a coalition of Democrat governors had already talked about attempting this type of action in a state where the party controls the legislature and has a lapdog state police administration, just as kind of a trial balloon, and Albuquerque citizens are the unlucky guinea pigs.

For all those who think Democrats find this playbook palatable, be aware they don't:

The whole idea is wrong, and could easily cost the Grisham her political career. New Mexico is blue, but like Nevada, is a big gun-rights state.
My guess is after people looked at the reaction this was getting all the online influencers got the same memo to back away from it. The wording in their posts is just too similar.

What we have is governors of the states running loose passing their own laws without regard to the federal laws or the constitution. And a president.........well we actually don't really have a president do we? I can see a union divided.

What? But, but.....you mean like someone TOLD them what to say? Oh my
Eh, they're just hedging their bets right now. It's not that

because they certainly do find the concept palatable, but are just clever enough to know that this is too much, too soon -- can't go all in too quickly when your stategy is the long game, death by a thousand cuts. They're manipulating the younger generations, they are fully aware of the old guard in the "big gun rights" states. My state used to be a "big gun rights" state -- it turned within 10 years.

Sorry, no disrespect, but this is precisely the sort of hubris those of us in other "big gun rights" states (e.g., my state) used to display. Used to.

Yep, and the moderators of this site don't think political parties are an important point in any conversation.
No, we've learned from decades of experience that some approaches to these issues, in the large, are unsuccessful and lead to strife and discord and impede our mission.

Also note: the last time I tracked such things we had more liberals than conservatives browsing the board. And not by a couple of percent.

Being pro-gun and a resource to the community may just be better than participating in partisan bickering.

They are just governors. They are not rocket scientists. And they are out of control. We have federal and constitutional laws to keep this in check but there's no one watching the store.

If only ALL the antis were that stupid- they wouldn't be a threat at all. (Sigh)
In reading comments from antigunners, a common theme that runs through them is their naivete and the inflated sense of their power. They think that since their stance is "morally correct" they can snap their fingers and guns will magically disappear. Coupled with this is their belief that gun owners are hicks and rednecks. (Now, these are the rank-and-file followers, the ones I call the "soccer moms," who are motivated by emotion. The leaders are considerably more sophisticated.)

Everybody, stop the chest beating. She's in her last term and knows this is unenforceable so it's pure political posturing. The city and county officials plus law enforcement are NOT backing her and the State Police don't really have the time to do this, they have their regular duties.
She's doing this for a reason but exactly what the reason is we're not sure. Like I've said before she's not stupid, she's an old political campaigner, I really think its smoke and mirrors to distract us. But from what..........?

The usual money grubbing free for almost all lame duck politicos engage in as their license to steal, er, Term, draws to a close.

This one was more out of line than usual. Anything can be done in a state of emergenc. Just ask Egypt. They’ve been in some sort of emergency since 1981. Even without a real crisis, it makes governing by executive decree way easier.

Albuquerque does have a problem. Every case cited was a minor with a firearm they shouldn’t have access too. Banning carry by permit holders doesn’t fix any of that. But it does get national attention.

The Mass governor suspended the fourth amendment briefly after the marathon bombings. I don't know if there was an official declaration of emergency.
A number of states suspended the first amendment (or more) in response to covid, alongside a declaration of emergency.

It seems that there is an understanding that these are done so boldly outside of law that they need to be temporary. The duration going up signals something, though.

This only applies to ALQ and for only then next 20-something days.
Stay off 40 and 25 and not got through ALQ solves the travel problems.

Now, am I remembering wrong, but doesn't NM have a Preemption Law? Which ought to mean a singe municipality can't do that? And, the notions, above, that a "Katrina" law barring emergency order of this sort may be past due.
The municipality didn't do it, the governor did.

I was waiting to see whether anyone here would post these. :)

BTW, little Davey didn't get the idea himself, he read Ted Lieu's post and answered "Agree", then posted his own that you included.
