I will only shoot my late fathers reloads.

His loads were all developed for his firearms and I inherited those as well.

My friends all reload as well so that doesn't come up with them.

Had a couple coworkers ask over the years and after I explained the legalities and how loads are developed for individual firearms they stop asking.

I have also offered my equipment over the years, provided they supply their own components (I give them a list of compatible components) but haven't had anyone take me up on it yet.

2 weeks ago I went with my brother in law and a first time shooter/coworker of his to an indoor range; my 1st time in an indoor range.

I let them shoot my reloads out of my firearms.
In return they paid for my range fees.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!’
Axis II: I’ve got a “friend” who i pretty much only hear from when he wants something

Me: People who only call/text you when they want something from you are not "friends" ;)

Besides, "High Road" reloaders don't shoot other people's reloads (Rule #1 of reloading safety) and don't allow others to shoot their reloads (Rule #2 of reloading safety) because no one is perfect and we all make mistakes and stuff can go BOOM and stuff with blood everywhere and people crying and stuff too ... Then lawsuits get filed and ..."friendships" get ruined and stuff ... You know.

If you want to be a good "friend", you can tell them, "I can help you set up to reload" but if they just want you to reload for them, I think it's time you need different friends, you know the kind that acts like real friends to hunt down primers and powder and bring them to you as "gifts". :p

A certain unnamed idiot (who shall remain my brother) will reload for Dad and myself. But every so often he will say he needs powder, bar lead or some other supply and I whip up either blackberry cobbler or cherry cake and head to the gunsmith. The smith will not reload for me but cobbler or cake seems to make his emergency supply cupboards come open. However Dad and I are the only ones the certain unnamed idiot (who shall remain my brother) will share his reloads. His standard reply is since he isn't familiar with their gun he wouldn't be comfortable seeing them shoot reloads at all.

Or be sued if things go bad. ;)

Yup, some people do and will sue their friends, even other family members.

just charge him an arm and a leg and neglect to put primers or powder in them. then say, you thought he wanted dummy rounds just for testing the action as it would be crazy to reload actual live rounds for somoene else.

I won't reload for most people but I reload for my brother and dad and they reload for me on occasion.
Same except my Dad passed 2 years ago.
I don't want to go to prison.
Like several others. I have found it easier to offer to guide them than it is to say no. So far my niece and nephew are the only ones that have pulled my press handle except my youngest brother and Dad.
My brother supplies components and does his own reloading on my equipment most of the time.
My niece and nephew wanted to shoot when I was low on ammo. So I let them each reload as much as they wanted to shoot that day. It was more fun than the dollar amount.

If you go into the realm of possibilities there are people that will steal from family members or use them for forced labor. The certain unnamed idiot (who shall remain my brother) knows if I were after his money all I would have to do is threaten to publish my diary which not only tells where all the bodies are buried but who owned the bra Dad found in his tractor while he was dating his wife. Or how his pick up really happened to roll down the bank of the Iroquois river. Knowing my husband would make my diary public if I were hurt or killed means the certain unnamed idiot (who shall remain my brother) takes special care of the quality of my ammunition. The family bond is a wonderful thing.

oooh yeah… not your friend anymore after you blow up his eyes and lodge a firing pin in ex-friends forehead

I only reload for myself and my son.

I have other guys that I help out. I'll let them use my equipment and even prep brass for them. When it comes to actual loading, I'll have them come over an load for themselves.

I'm a primary care physician. I've been doing it several years, and am frankly burnt out. I don't love what I do, but I also don't hate it. However, what I do hate is that every gathering, picnic, etc. turns into a free doctor's visit, often for several or many people there. I like to spend my free time NOT working. If I wanted to work on my off time, I'd hold office hours and get paid to work.
When was a teenager to young adult back in the 1950's and living at home all my relatives that had cars would visit and want there cars fixed .( i was a mechanic) Was young and dumb at the time. Another one i like is when someone borrows a tool like a hacksaw and you have to ask for it back. If i have to ask i will NEVER loan anything to that person again. If they do ask again i just tell them i dont have it. Also i will never loan ANY power tool to anyone. If they ask why i tell them i don't loan power tools

Family is different ... you do things for family that you would never do for non-family .
Including helping them out with ammo ... my brother keeps me supplied with lead and wheel weights ... I don't mind doing for him .
Some people are just rude and ask for free stuff like they were entitled to it and you should do whatever they want ...

“Friends” and “acquaintances” are different things - I can say I don’t have people in my circle which would feel so entitled. I do a lot for a lot of people and set high expectations, but realism is a hard-line issue in my circle. We’d do a lot more than just reload for eachother, but it certainly wouldn’t be a hapless expectation like implied in the OP.

I’ve taught a lot of folks to reload, both casually through mentorship and through paid courses, and I have loaded ammo for a lot of folks, also both generously and paid as a licensed manufacturer. When I donate time to make ammo, it’s that. Putting good will into the universe is rarely unrewarded. But I don’t tend to befriend entitled twits which lack self-awareness, so this kind of thing doesn’t happen for me.

I had a friend that doesn’t reload ask me about buying reloads...while he was purchasing a new gun for which there was no ammo to be had....in the gun store during checkout. I told him of the legalities standing at the gun counter too. It embarrassed him lol.

On occasion I have taken a ziploc bag of ammo shooting with me and let friends shoot some. I told them something to the affect of because I reload I have so much I can’t shoot it all. Every one declines to take me up on my offer to learn to reload.

Sadly I don’t have a reloading buddy. I know one person that reloads but we generally don’t hang out much.

My friends have never asked. I guess that's why they're my friends. The only one who I reload for is my grandson, who I raised and lives with me. He helps or does it himself alot too.

Ah, yes. Familial extortion. A grande auld tradition.
Y’all must be of Scottish ancestry. :D

One of my son's friends asked (through my son) if I would make ammo for him. I told him no...but that I'd teach him to load and throw in the first 50 rounds of components...INCLUDING PRIMERS...at no cost. Then once he had developed some comfort with the process I'd let him make ammo, paying me replacement cost for components.

The little turd went out and bought a complete Dillon XL750 configured for 9mm. Last I'd heard, he has a perfect, though unused reloading setup. I'm waiting for him to give up and offer the equipment to me at a steep discount.

My wife is part Scottish and she said I cannot work on other people's roofs, just hers.

And please, apply that to reloading only ... Really. :p

Not that the info and members here aren't great most of the time.......It would be nice to share info face to face.........
I met THR members face to face and by phone and all have been positive experiences. Even went shooting with some.

And I would extend an offer for nice meal with whoever member I meet, my treat.

Here is a sure way and it has worked for me every time ... and I mean every time ...
Not one person has accepted my offer .

Tell Them ...
1.) Under Federal Law you can not reload ammo that you sell or give away to other people , without a Manufacturing Permit and Liability Insurance . You can only reload for yourself .

Is this true? I read that you can give it away, or sell it for only what you paid to make it.

Taking a big risk giving it away IMO. Selling it for cost is a grey area that might also get you into trouble as well.
I will let someone that is interested learn how to load a box of ammo under my direct supervision while they pull the handle. I will explain up front that they are making a small explosive device with each round and they alone are responsible if there is a mishap. Some take me up on the offer and most of those go on to become reloaders themselves.
The others not willimg to put forth the effort I'll not waste my time on.

I have a friend and shooting buddy who is a big .45 shooter and we used to double up on ammo bulk orders. So I asked him to save me some .45 brass. He gave me about 250 pcs. As he had shot and liked my reloads and gave him a box of 100 just because. He said to me “but I gave you 250 pcs of brass”. I said yea you still owe me $50 for the rest of the components and my time. He got the point. Just for the record I never charged him.
